LA Weight Loss Transitioning to Online Program

Closing centers in Philadelphia and Harrisburg, Pa. markets

PHILADELPHIA--()--LA Weight Loss announced today that it is closing 22 locations in the Philadelphia and Harrisburg, Pa. areas and will transition its 1,500 clients to its popular online and telephone support program, called LA On-the-Go. Fifty-five local employees are being affected by center closings. The stores officially closed today, but will remain open for the week of Oct. 22, 2012 for clients to meet with their weight loss consultants and set up a transition plan.

“The LA Weight Loss brand remains strong and will continue to operate through direct-to-consumer channels, including online and brick-and-mortar retailers that carry our products,” said Fraser Clarke, President and CEO of LA Weight Loss. “However, changing client behavior and a lingering recession have presented challenges to our U.S. store operations. Consequently, LA Weight Loss will transition local clients to LA On-the-Go, our internet and telephone support program that has been gaining popularity as consumers increasingly opt to engage with us from the comfort of their homes, rather than visit centers.”

With LA On-the-Go, members can still enjoy all of the innovative tools LA Weight Loss has pioneered to achieve their weight loss goals—including coaching and mentoring, easy-to-use menu plans, food diaries, and restaurant guides—as well as order all LA Weight Loss products online and have them conveniently delivered right to their door.

“We deeply regret the set of unforeseen circumstances that led to this decision and its impact on our staff and their families. Our employees did a marvelous job of helping thousands of clients achieve and maintain their weight-loss goals, and we will always be indebted to their hard work and dedication. In many ways, they have been family to us and we will miss their professionalism, camaraderie and good cheer,” Clarke added.

Because LA Weight Loss is a program where clients pay for products as they use them, clients will not lose any money and can continue their weight loss journey through a telephone support program and online store.

LA Weight Loss clients are asked to visit their center and meet with their counselor during the week of Oct. 22, 2012 in order to receive their personalized transition plan. To help with that transition, LA Weight Loss centers will make available products and weight-loss tools at substantial discounts to its current clients.

“We want to do everything in our power to make this transition as easy as possible for our clients and to help our employees in any way we can,” said Clarke.

LA Weight Loss was purchased by Canadian-based Herbal Magic in December 2010. Herbal Magic immediately invested in the brand and opened the Philadelphia and Harrisburg centers in anticipation of economic improvements that were being projected for the U.S. economy at that time, which unfortunately never materialized.
