WoodWorks Accepting Nominations For 2013 U.S. Wood Design Awards

Expanded National Awards Program Celebrates Excellence in Wood Design and Construction

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WoodWorks, an educational initiative that provides free technical support and resources related to non-residential and multi-family building projects, is accepting nominations for its newly expanded U.S. Wood Design Awards, which celebrate excellence in wood design and construction. The deadline for entries is November 30, 2012, and the winners will be announced on January 29, 2013, at the Oakland Wood Solutions Fair.

“The Wood Design Awards honor architects and engineers who have found innovative ways to use wood in buildings and showcase benefits of wood, such as strength, beauty, versatility and sustainability”

“The Wood Design Awards honor architects and engineers who have found innovative ways to use wood in buildings and showcase benefits of wood, such as strength, beauty, versatility and sustainability,” said WoodWorks president and CEO, Adrian Blocker. “This year, WoodWorks has evolved its regional Wood Design Awards into one program in order to encompass the entire U.S. and present winning projects and firms on an even grander stage.”

Projects may be submitted in eight categories:

  • Institutional design
  • Commercial design
  • Multi-story wood design
  • Interior beauty of wood
  • Green building
  • Traditional use of wood
  • Engineering

“Wood helps maximize the beauty and functionality of modern buildings while, in many cases, minimizing cost,” said Blocker. “These awards celebrate the vast range of design objectives achievable with wood — everything from creating a warm and enriching environment, to energy efficiency, adaptability or the cost-effective use of wood in specific building types.”

The award submission deadline is November 30, 2012. There are no project nomination fees, and multiple submissions are encouraged. To be eligible, projects must be located in the U.S. or its territories and must have been completed within the past three years. Recent projects must be fully constructed by November 30, 2012.
