RYE BROOK, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rye Radiology Associates, LLP, became the first facility between Manhattan and Syracuse to offer the new FDA-approved 3D mammography which finds more breast cancers than traditional mammography.
3D mammography finds more breast cancers in all breast types, especially dense breasts, by taking millimeter-thin images through the entire breast, increasing accuracy and helping radiologists better discern between cancer and normal, harmless breast densities.
“In 38 years of practicing radiology, I believe 3D mammography is the most significant breakthrough in breast cancer screening. Studies show this technology finds more breast cancers with less false positives than usual 2D views,” said Dr. Diane LoRusso, co-founder, Rye Radiology.
Dr. Gail Calamari, neuroradiologist, Rye Radiology adds, “We’re actually seeing thin layers of breast tissue rather than overlap of tissue. We’re able to scroll through the breast like pages of a book and more easily identify abnormalities in the breast structure.”
The experience is the same as a traditional mammogram, with the exception of the x-ray tube moving while the patient is being compressed.
“The resulting images are sharper, clearer and the accuracy of 3D results in fewer additional mammography views and work-up of benign densities--a relief to many patients,” said Dr. LoRusso. “The procedure takes about 12 seconds.”
“We do everything we can to make preventive screening and diagnostic mammography a positive experience for patients. We give them immediate diagnostic work-up if any abnormality is found and provide same-day results--before leaving the office,” said Dr. Calamari.
Dr. LoRusso concludes, “We are committed to our patients. By offering 3D we’re bringing them the latest breakthrough in mammography.”
Drs. LoRusso and Calamari received Castle Connolly “Top Doctor” awards by fellow physicians and voted “Best Doctors” by New York Magazine. Rye Radiology is a full service imaging facility offering 3D and 2D digital mammograms, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, breast biopsies utilizing stereotactic guidance, ultrasound or MRI guidance, multi-slice CT scans, body, neurologic and orthopedic MRI’s (open and high field), general ultrasound, bone density exams and general x-ray.
