LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Volubill today launched Volubill Business System 6.0 (VBS), the latest version of its converged charging and policy software providing a new powerful service creation environment for easy GUI based definition of business services and network rules. Operators can now complement existing investments in DPI/PCEF and design the lifecycle of subscriber data services in order to maximize revenues but also provide the customer with options that suit their personal requirements.
VBS 6.0 enables communications service providers swift integration and launch of new and innovative data services with DPI/PCEF products from leading vendors such as Cisco, Sandvine, Procera and iPoque, using standard network and GUI interfaces. There is no technical scripting, costly professional services or long projects.
VBS 6.0 also includes embedded, real-time communication, presentation and provisioning of subscriber top-up, bolt-on and usage management options. This is vital because as service providers control usage for pricing, network profitability or bill protection, subscribers need options to cease restrictions or extend their plans as their behavior and needs change.
Peter Flynn, VP Product at Volubill, said, “VBS 6.0 interoperates swiftly with existing OSS infrastructure including IN, OCS and PCRF systems, to deliver dynamic market oriented services whilst maximising legacy investments. The product has moved with the market, and with input from our customers it fulfils the requirements for a wide range of today’s telecoms use-cases.”
With VBS 6.0, operators now not only have the benefit of a flexible rules engine that enables Volubill to deliver special business exceptions swiftly, but also a highly productive interface, for standard business requirements, which:
- Enable capture or change to service and network rules within minutes. Leading to a more agile business.
- Drives the user through a structured process for changing and creating service and network policies with built-in data integrity checks. Resulting in easier and systematic changes.
- Eliminates errors and the need for operators to test changes before launching. Leading to more secure launches.
- Significantly reduces project costs and skill requirements. Resulting in lower total cost of ownership.
Supporting the new 6.0 software release is the publication of a new IDC Technology Spotlight which discusses the challenges facing CSPs and how new trends, and an increasingly competitive business landscape affects their need for robust policy control and charging capabilities. Over the past several years, CSPs' number one priority for business support system expenditures was to reduce operating costs. From 2012 to 2016, IDC believes that spending on billing and related systems is likely to be driven more by the mandate to innovate (i.e. create new services and revenue streams) versus the desire to simply reduce costs, although this always remains a concern.
“Today, it’s easy for unsatisfied customers to switch service providers,” said Deb Osswald, Research Vice President with IDC. “CSPs need to realize that in addition to offering innovative services, instilling loyalty is vital as well. Offering customers personalized service choices and sometimes direct control of their account options can go a long way toward customer satisfaction. To provide these capabilities means making better use of advanced converged policy management and charging technologies. Policy and charging will enhance a CSP’s business by providing important new elements of service creation, enabling them to tailor what they sell to suit the end user. Only then can a CSP have the ability to achieve a lasting relationship with its customers.”
