KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As the excitement of the 83rd MLB All-Star Game in Kansas City nears, Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball®, is asking the community to help honor members of America’s military for their sacrifices and service by supporting USO Fort Riley.
Starting today, customers, employees and baseball fans can stop by any of the 49 Bank of America banking centers in the Kansas City area, or the six banking centers in Topeka and Junction City, to sign a ball with their words of thanks to the military. The balls will be collected for a patriotic mosaic that will be assembled and displayed at an exhibit shared by Bank of America and USO Fort Riley from Friday, July 6, through Tuesday, July 10, at the 2012 MLB All-Star FanFest, located in the Kansas City Convention Center. Fans will also be able to sign balls at the mosaic exhibit. In exchange for these words of appreciation and support, Bank of America will donate $1 to USO Fort Riley for each ball signed.

Bank of America’s All-Star Week activation will also feature a game that will give fans a chance to hit a plastic ball over an actual military vehicle at MLB All-Star Sponsor Zone at Kauffman Stadium, Lot H. For each “home run,” the bank will also donate $1 to USO Fort Riley. A digital screen in the exhibit will track the total amount raised, up to a maximum of $20,000, between the home run game and the balls signed for the military mosaic.

In addition to these activities, Bank of America is the presenting sponsor of Military Appreciation Day at MLB All-Star FanFest on Friday, July 6. As part of this special day, during which MLB will honor members of the armed forces, Bank of America will host a friendly ball game with military children whose families are stationed at nearby Fort Riley.
The bank is also working with MLB and the Kansas City Royals, with support from Rebuilding Together, on a service project at the Kansas City VA Honor Annex. The renovations will be unveiled on Saturday, July 7. Bank of America employees will be on hand that day, volunteering their time to help put the finishing touches on the rehab project. The facility will serve female veterans and all veterans afflicted with post-traumatic stress disorder. Bank employees also volunteered at the launch of the project on June 9.
