TUSCON, Ariz.--()--A new K-12 reading curriculum, MindPlay Virtual Reading Coach™ (MVRC), will be released by MindPlay, Inc., on July 1. MindPlay’s previous products, supported by scientifically-based reading research, have won numerous awards for excellence in the field.
MVRC is designed to measurably improve reading skills in 30 hours or less. The program provides instruction in all five of the essential reading components identified by the National Reading Panel: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. MVRC also includes an additional instructional component on grammar and meaning. The program aligns with the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.
Accurate assessment of reading skills, diagnosis of specific problems, and delivery of direct and systematic instruction in a classroom with students of widely varying abilities is a time-consuming process for teachers. MVRC automates this process and delivers differentiated instruction that specifically targets each student’s identified needs. Technological innovation allows the program to appeal to multiple learning styles, identify individual student needs and clear objectives, and differentiate instruction. Targeted, interactive feedback and inviting graphics help student motivation remain high.
Decades of reading research demonstrates the necessity of systematic, direct, and explicit reading instruction. MVRC is a research-based program that assesses reading abilities with a comprehensive diagnostic exam, and instantly provides a prescribed sequence of lessons and activities. In addition to essential reading components, the MindPlay diagnostic tool also tests eye-tracking abilities.
A detailed diagnostic report automatically assigns an individualized plan of instruction for each student. Instruction provided by virtual reading coaches and speech pathologists is a unique aspect of MVRC. These coaches provide individualized feedback based on student performance. The program includes more than 20 levels of instruction, when needed, and over 40 practice activities per skill or concept.
MVRC continuously monitors student progress and collects and records data in real-time. The program provides real-time reports at district, school, classroom, and student levels. Teachers and administrators can customize and export the reports they need to evaluate student progress.
