HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Verizon Wireless, which operates the nation’s fastest and most advanced 4G network and largest and most reliable 3G network, has announced the Wireless Technology Innovation Awards for small to medium sized minority and women owned businesses and organizations in the Greater Houston area.
An organization with between one and 500 employees will be honored for its innovative development and use of Verizon Wireless mobile technology to improve productivity, streamline operations or serve its customers and community better. The winning organization will receive $10,000 from Verizon Wireless and recognition at an awards luncheon attended by local business and civic leaders.
“We’re proud to foster and recognize innovation by businesses in the Houston area, especially those that have succeeded as minority or women owned businesses,” said Krista Bourne – president, Houston/Gulf Coast Region, Verizon Wireless. “The latest, most advanced wireless technologies, especially 4GLTE broadband services, provide organizations a broad range of possibilities to improve their own operations, efficiency and service.”
The 4GLTE network provides wireless users access to services up to 10 times faster than the company’s industry-leading 3G network. With this latest progression of wireless technology, average data rates in real-world, loaded network environments are between 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
These speeds allow for smooth mobile video-conferencing, multiple simultaneous video streams, speedy transfer of large files, downloading and running of powerful programs, machine-to-machine communication, fleet and device tracking, and numerous other applications to improve efficiency and productivity.
Verizon Wireless launched its 4GLTE network in Houston in 2010, and has expanded its coverage in the area continuously since then, reaching many of Houston's more rural outlying areas.
Entries for the Wireless Technology Innovation Awards are due by online submission or mail by August 31. Winners will be announced at an awards luncheon on October 16, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. CST at The Magnolia Hotel.
