As the Texas Summer Heat Begins to Take over, Crest Auto Group's R.O.L.O. Program Relaunches to Prevent Deaths of Children & Pets

A North Texas automotive dealership teams up with local organizations to remind drivers and parents to not leave their children and pets in unattended vehicles

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As the Summer heat begins to roll in, a local automotive dealership wants to raise awareness through the program Remember Our Little Ones, or R.O.L.O., to help prevent the deaths of children and pets caused by hypothermia (or heat stroke) when left in an unattended vehicle.

The ROLO sticker and logo were designed to serve as a preventative measure to drivers and other road users not to leave small children or pets in the car. Crest Auto Group will be distributing stickers to the general public to raise awareness about this fatal situation. Each recipient will receive a set of stickers: one that should be placed on the interior of the vehicle and serves as a reminder to the driver, and the other on the back windshield of the vehicle that will alert fellow drivers.

In 2011 there were at least 33 juvenile vehicular hyperthermia fatalities. Since 1998 there have been at least a total of 529 of these needless tragedies. Startlingly, Texas has led the nation in having 80 such fatalities, according to the SFSU Department of Geosciences. Just recently, a 7-month old boy in Sugarland, Texas died due to heatstroke; it was only 89 degrees outside. To date, nineteen states currently have laws that prohibit children from being left in unattended vehicles.

In addition, the concern for pets suffering from hyperthermia has caused cities to pass ordinances aimed at preventing injuries and deaths; at least 15 states have passed legislation that makes it illegal for pets to be confined in automobiles. Such tragedies have also led animal welfare organizations to create educational programs for pet safety in extreme weather conditions.
