PORTLAND, Ore.--()--AppFog, the leading cloud Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) for developers who use multiple cloud platforms, today announced that John Purrier will be joining AppFog as its chief technology officer (CTO). As CTO, Purrier will be responsible for leading and executing all facets of open source technologies and further AppFog’s support for the Open Source Cloud Foundry and OpenStack communities.

Purrier has held numerous executive management positions and has been responsible for taking many products from conception to completion as well as leading many well-known projects within cloud technology. In his most recent position, vice president of Open Source Cloud Services at Hewlett Packard, he was responsible for community-based development of all Open Source Cloud technologies for HP including OpenStack and Cloud Foundry. He has also held positions at Microsoft, IBM, and Rackspace, and he received his Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington.
John has a deep history with open source and led the team at Rackspace that built and delivered the Swift Object Store to the Rackspace Cloud and the Object Store project with OpenStack. While at AppFog, he will remain on the Project Policy Board for OpenStack where he focuses on OpenStack’s mission of delivering open source software to build private and public clouds.
