Comcast Cares Day to Bring Together Thousands of Volunteers in Colorado

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Saturday, April 21, more than 4,000 local Comcast employees and their families and friends will volunteer their time toward 21 Colorado nonprofits as part of Comcast’s annual “Comcast Cares Day.”

“Today, we will surpass 2.5 million total hours of service. Comcast Cares Day is about coming together to have a positive impact on our communities, and I am truly proud to join my fellow employees as we continue in that mission.”

Since its inception in 2001, Comcast Cares Day has become one of the largest single days of corporate volunteering in the country. More than 67,000 Comcast volunteers will participate in this annual day of service.

During the day of service, Comcast employees in the Colorado area will take part in a variety of volunteer efforts across the state from installing energy-saving items to cleaning up the South Platte River.

Over the previous 10 Comcast Cares Days, volunteers have dedicated more than 2.1 million hours of service. Comcast has also contributed more than $10.5 million in grants to organizations nationwide. Comcast Cares Day is one way that Comcast helps to power dreams and demonstrate a year-round commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves.

Statewide Comcast Cares Day projects include:

The Greenway Foundation (750 volunteers)
700 Water Street. Denver, CO 80211, Denver (Note: This location is also known as “Fish Back Landing” in between REI and Downtown Denver Aquarium)
Greenway Foundation advances the South Platte River and the surrounding tributaries as a unique environmental, recreational, cultural, scientific and historical amenity. Volunteers will work on general cleanup around the South Platte River and neighboring parks, along with painting and cleaning of the facilities.

Boys & Girls Club Broncos Branch (400 volunteers)
4397 Crown Blvd., Denver
The Broncos Branch of the Boys & Girls Club gives children the tools to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Volunteers will be building a fence, trimming trees, and caring for the Good Food Garden.

Metropolitan State College of Denver Foundation (600 volunteers)
Auraria Campus Speer Blvd. & Auraria Parkway, Denver
The Metropolitan State College of Denver Foundation Inc. promotes the development and general welfare of the College by receiving, investing and administering private support. Volunteers will assist with beautification projects on the campus with a focus on the water systems.

Food Bank of the Rockies (90 volunteers)
10700 East 45th Ave., Denver
Food Bank of the Rockies, Inc. solicits, collects and distributes food to those in need of assistance through nonprofit member agencies. Volunteers will package food that will be distributed to those in need in the community, metro Denver, Northern Colorado and Wyoming.

Dress for Success (50 volunteers)
1510 High St # 200, Denver
Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Volunteers will assist in overall beautification projects including landscaping, cleaning around the neighborhood, organizing and washing windows.

Denver Health (300 volunteers)
777 Bannock St., Denver
Denver Health provides billions of dollars of care for the uninsured. Volunteers will plant trees and flower beds, install mulch and sod, paint curbs and plant in the Cancer Center garden. They will also be making pediatric activity bags, pediatric blankets and Newborns in Need bags.

Girls, Inc. (200 volunteers)
1499 Julian St., Denver
Girls, Inc. inspires girls to be strong, smart and bold through a network of local organizations. Volunteers will be assisting in beautification projects such as cleaning, painting and landscaping the metro Denver facility.

Metro State Eco-rally and Goodwill Clothing Drive (100 volunteers)
Auraria Campus in front of the Tivoli Student Union, Denver
The Metropolitan State College of Denver, in collaboration with Metech and Goodwill, will be hosting an eco-rally and clothing drive. Volunteers will be assisting in the electronic recycling event and clothing drive.

Mount St. Vincent Home (75 volunteers)
4159 Lowell Blvd., Denver
Mount St. Vincent Home has been caring for over 18,000 abused and neglected children since 1883 through a range of programs and services. Volunteers will be improving the overall appearance of the facility, including raking, mulching and cleaning up the facility grounds.

Clayton Early Learning Center (300 volunteers)
3751 Martin Luther King Blvd., Denver
Clayton Early Learning provides and collaborates with others to improve early care and education to ensure optimal development during the critical prenatal-to-5 period for all children, especially those of limited opportunity. Volunteers will be planting trees and flowers, painting and assisting in general clean-up. Other projects include installing balance beams and wine barrel planters, building bird and butterfly houses and installing wood cookies in the playground area.

Mi Casa Resource Center (80 volunteers)
360 Acoma St., Denver
Mi Casa advances economic success and helps Latino and low-income families trade poverty for lasting economic stability. Volunteers will assist in projects including cleaning of the facility, painting, carpet cleaning, sanding and refinishing the stage and repairing storage doors.

Care and Share Food Bank (110 volunteers)
1605 Preamble Point, Colorado Springs
Care and Share Food Bank serves diverse populations of the hungry across southern Colorado, including impoverished children, the working poor, low-income seniors, the sick, the disabled, the homeless, and other at-risk populations. Volunteers will be sorting food, working on general beautification projects, and working at the organization’s Urban Garden.

Spirit of the Springs Parks Clean Up (100 volunteers)
Neighborhood parks (meeting in the parking lot near Mesa and Glen Ave.), Colorado Springs
One of Colorado Springs Mayor Bach's key objectives is to build community and encourage citizen involvement to make Colorado Springs the best city possible by cleaning up community parks through Spirit of the Springs. Volunteers will work on beautification projects, including picking up trash, raking and other various activities.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (110 volunteers)
4250 Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Road, Colorado Springs
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo leads in conservation, captive breeding and animal care. Volunteers will be planting flowers, painting exhibits, grounds clean up and making seed sticks for the aviary exhibit.

Aurora Public Schools Education Foundation, North Middle School (150 volunteers)
12095 Montview Blvd., Aurora
The Aurora Public School Education Foundation teaches every student the knowledge, skills and values necessary to enter college or careers and helps them become contributing members of society who flourish in a diverse, dynamic world. Volunteers will work on general clean up around the school, including painting of various classrooms.

Trinidad Community Foundation (270 volunteers)
Along Purgatoire River (meeting at Cimino Downtown Park), Trinidad
The Trinidad Community Foundation enhances the quality of life in Trinidad and Las Animas County by building a culture of giving, and by providing grants for education, health and wellness, recreation, historic preservation and communication. Volunteers will work on general beautification and litter removal around the Purgatoire River.

Longmont Neighborhood Revitalization, Energy Sweep (50 volunteers)
1288 Alaska Ave., Longmont
The Longs Peak Energy Conservation (LPEC) provides improvements to safety, energy efficiency, comfort and general repair of the homes of eligible clients through a variety of different programs. Volunteers will go door-to-door providing energy saving tips and offering to install energy-saving items in residents’ homes such as (low flow showerheads and faucet aerators.

South Platte Historical River Foundation (180 volunteers)
CR 14 ½ & Highway 85, Fort Lupton
South Platte Valley Historical Foundation accepts endowments, donations of money, trusts and real property to remain as a perpetual fund with only earnings distributed to the South Platte Valley Historical Society for specific purposes. Volunteers will be scrapping wood, stripping houses, planting trees and overall beautification of the South Platte River area.

BSA Rocky Mountain Council (150 volunteers)
411 South Pueblo Blvd., Pueblo
The Rocky Mountain Council provides the programs of Boy Scouts of America and Learning for Life throughout southeastern Colorado. Volunteers will clean up one of Pueblo’s Runyon Lake and the trail around it by washing and painting walls, fences and signs.

Vail Valley Foundation (50 volunteers)
West of Spur Rd., Edwards
The Vail Valley Foundation provides leadership in athletic, cultural, educational and community-based endeavors to enhance and sustain the quality of life in the Vail Valley. Volunteers will clean up Eagle River by removing litter, weeding and other beautification projects.

Audubon Society of Greater Denver (175 volunteers)
9308 South Wadsworth Blvd, Littleton
Audubon Society of Greater Denver (ASDG) is an environmental conservation organization whose goal is to protect and preserve our natural heritage. Volunteers will repair flood damaged trails, plant native wildflowers and shrubs in the butterfly garden and children’s sensory garden, and restore wildlife habitat.
