Bellingham Couple Wins $10,000 Home Energy Solar System in Puget Sound Energy’s Green Power Program Solar Power Sweepstakes

BELLINGHAM, Wash.--()--Puget Sound Energy recently announced that Lon and Susan Swan of Bellingham, Wash., won the utility’s Green Power Program Solar Power Sweepstakes and a free residential solar-power system worth $10,000.

“Our Green Power customers join the Green Power Program because they believe in local renewable energy development,” said Cal Shirley, PSE vice president of Customer Solutions. “We are excited about the opportunity to give away a personal solar system so our customers can begin generating their own renewable energy right at home.”

The Swan’s, who signed up for PSE’s Green Power Program in October 2011, are excited to have their system installed by Bellingham based solar electric contractor, Ecotech Energy Systems, LLC, and to spread the word that solar power is a viable renewable energy source in Western Washington.

“We've talked about installing solar on our home because we knew that it is a great source of green power but haven't been in the position to do it – until now,” said Susan Swan. “When we signed up for the Green Power Program we were just trying do our part in using green energy sources and now we will be one.”

This summer and fall residential electric customers were automatically entered in PSE’s Solar Sweepstakes when they enrolled in the utility’s voluntary Green Power Program for electric customers; existing customers could enter to win by increasing their participation level. The Solar Power Sweepstakes winner was selected at random.

PSE’s voluntary Green Power Program gives PSE electric customers a way to guarantee that some or all of the energy they use is matched in the electric grid with clean electricity from wind, solar, biogas and other renewable energy sources. None of the renewable energy in PSE’s Green Power Program is generated by PSE; it all comes from other independent producers of renewable power.

With two participation options, PSE residential customers can purchase 100 percent green power for approximately $10 to $12 a month based on their actual usage or buy a specific amount, with a minimum purchase of $4 per month for 320 kilowatt-hours (kWh). Additional green power can be bought in increments of $2 for 160 kWh. Business customers can also participate at rates specific to their situation.

To sign up for PSE’s Green Power Program call a PSE Energy Advisor at 1-800-562-1482, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or visit PSE.com/GreenPower.
