Grocery Workers Launch Pledge Campaign to Gather Customer Support for Quality Jobs and Healthcare

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--Grocery workers throughout Northern California are launching a campaign to inform the public about their ongoing negotiations with their employers and to gather pledge cards from customers showing support. They are asking consumers to sign pledge cards in an effort to maintain good jobs and quality medical care for their families and retirees.

Employees of Safeway, Save Mart and Nob Hill will be greeting customers and handing out reusable grocery bags and pledge cards in three locations in San Jose on March 1 and in other locations in the coming weeks.

Retired Save Mart butcher Frank Tallerico said, “Since San Jose passed the plastic bag ban we thought it would be a nice gesture to give our customers reusable bags so they’re not surprised at the check stand. We also thought it would be a good idea to let them know about our negotiations and ask them to help us continue to provide for our families and keep them healthy.”
