Access to Low-, No-cost Dental Care Resources for Kids Available Through Californians for Patient Care

February’s Children’s Dental Health Month serves as reminder of importance of dental health

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--()--Parents without health or dental insurance who are concerned about the cost of routine dental care for their children can find local no- and low-cost dental care resources on Californians for Patient Care’s website (www.calpatientcare.org). Searches for dental care are the third most prevalent on the free and confidential website, which connects people to affordable care options in communities across California.

“Dental health can be so important to a child’s overall health and every February, National Children’s Dental Health Month gives us a chance to recognize that,” said Carmella Gutierrez, president of non-profit Californians for Patient Care. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that tooth decay affects children in the U.S. more than any other infectious disease. It can also be related to poor digestion, heart disease, diabetes and respiratory diseases. We want to remind parents that Californians for Patient Care can help them find resources right in their own communities that provide dental care services at minimal or no cost.”

People can access the database by clicking on the blue button at www.calpatientcare.org. After typing in basic search information such as city or county and category of resource, Californians can find a comprehensive list of local healthcare providers that provide primary, dental and mental healthcare services to the uninsured and underinsured.

Along with information on local dental care and healthcare service providers, Californians for Patient Care also provides information on chronic disease management, how to shop for health insurance, information on new research studies, and links to helpful organizations and websites.

“A child’s smile can light up your day. However, more than a quarter of kids between the ages of two and five and about half of kids 12 and older have tooth decay,” said Gutierrez. “We want to help kids – especially those with little or no insurance – get the preventive care they need and avoid long-term effects from poor dental health.”

Californians for Patient Care is a non-profit organization based in Sacramento dedicated to protecting the interests of patients and ensuring all California consumers have fair and equitable access to high quality healthcare. For more information, visit www.calpatientcare.org.
