The Sacramento Press Club Welcomes U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The federal government is cracking down on marijuana dispensaries and their landlords in California. In just a few months, numerous area dispensaries have shut their doors under the increased pressure. Prosecutors say tougher enforcement is necessary to protect young people and stop commercial distribution of the drug. Critics call it a direct assault on the state’s 16-year-old medical marijuana law, Proposition 215. The issue has quickly become a point of contention between Sacramento and Washington, D.C.

Please join us on Tuesday, Feb. 28th as the Sacramento Press Club welcomes U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner, who will discuss his office’s involvement in the pot dispensary crackdown. Wagner was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California in November 2009 by President Barack Obama. Wagner has been with the U.S. Department of Justice since 1992 and has served primarily in California’s Eastern District, although he did spend a year in Jakarta, Indonesia advising Indonesian prosecutors on fighting terrorism, corruption and other criminal justice matters.
