RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Crockett Early Childhood Center, of the Crockett Independent School District, has partnered with Hatch®, a leading provider of technology for early learning, to bring award-winning technology solutions proven effective in increasing literacy and math outcomes to its pre-K and kindergarten classrooms. The installation of Hatch’s cutting-edge technology systems in the Crockett Early Childhood Center represents a commitment to supporting its youngest students with proven tools for engaging children and building critical skills for STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness), as well as providing a strong educational foundation to ensure future success.
Crockett Early Childhood Center installed Hatch’s TeachSmart® interactive whiteboard learning system in its six kindergarten classrooms and iStartSmart® all-in-one, touch screen computers in its two pre-K classrooms at the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year. In January 2012, Crockett Early Childhood Center also installed Hatch’s new CoreFocus™ interactive whiteboard learning system for K-1 in its kindergarten classrooms.
“Hatch’s technology systems offered us a bright new avenue to open the imaginations of and engage our young learners in order to build vocabulary and accelerate their proficiency levels; thus pushing for emerging reading skills to come forward at an earlier point in their lives,” said Jeannie Julian, special education director for Crockett Independent School District (ISD). “The children love to interact with the technology, which means they are eager to participate and receptive to teaching.”
Education Technology Systems Spark Learning, Build Skills & Track Progress
At the end of last school year, approximately 50 percent of Crockett Early Childhood Center’s kindergarteners went on to first grade unable to read. The Hatch education technology systems contain research-based activities, tied to STAAR standards, and proven effective in increasing literacy and math outcomes. The content-rich systems build the crucial skills these students need to meet literacy goals for the end of their kindergarten year and be on target for STAAR assessments.
“Hatch has provided excellent tools to help us significantly move the bar in building vocabulary, comprehension and other literacy skills in our pre-K and kindergarten classrooms – taking us from less than 50 percent able to read when they entered first grade, to the majority of kindergarteners reading by the second quarter of the school year,” said Deborah Revels, principal of Crockett Early Childhood Center. “The Hatch systems’ progress monitoring and reporting have been key to meeting the ambitious goals we’ve set and have helped us achieve these goals at an even greater speed than we anticipated.”
A patented login designed for pre-readers allows children to independently access the iStartSmart Computer Learning System. The system provides more than 500 interactive activities that develop proficiency in 18 skill areas that early childhood research shows will lead to kindergarten readiness. iStartSmart identifies the skills students have mastered and where they need more help, automatically moving them to the next level. Individualized performance reports are tied to each child’s login and provide automated, standards-based progress monitoring for every student in the class.
The TeachSmart Learning System contains more than 1,100 research-based lesson plan activities for early learners, pre-loaded onto a Hatch computer with a SMART™ Board interactive whiteboard that correlate with state and national standards. The first research study to evaluate the effectiveness of interactive whiteboard technology in preschools was recently released and showed that the TeachSmart system can significantly improve math and early literacy learning outcomes.
CoreFocus by Hatch|SMART™ is a new content solution designed to work within SMART Notebook™ software for cognitive ages 4-8, featuring complete lessons for kindergarten through first grade students. CoreFocus includes more than 2,500 math and literacy activities aligned to Common Core State Standards, scaffolded for various skill levels, with built-in individualized lesson planning and individual digital portfolios for easy progress monitoring to support assessments.
“Hatch is excited to provide Crockett Early Childhood Center with innovative technology solutions designed to improve learning outcomes for young students and provide a strong foundation for future learning,” said Ginny Norton, president of Hatch. “All of Hatch’s education technology solutions are research-based solutions that enable schools to meet student goals and thus maximize their technology return on investment.”
