Axion International Announces Purchase Order from a Second US Class 1 Railroad

Rail Ties Will Be Installed in Weather-Challenged South East

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J.--()--Axion International (OTCBB: AXIH), the developer of Recycled Structural Composite (RSC)™ technology that is used to produce 100% recycled plastic ECOTRAX™ railroad ties and STRUXURE™ industrial building materials, announced today that the company has received a purchase order for their first installation of ties from another Class One Railroad. This represents the second of the nation’s Class 1 rail lines that Axion is doing business with - following a multi-year contract announced earlier in 2011. As part of this new order, Axion will also be pre-plating the ties so they’re ready for immediate installation. The ties are being installed in new track in a very humid, wet environment where Axion’s ECOTRAX™ perform well as they are impervious to the outdoor weather elements.

“This is a significant step for Axion in that we’re expanding our relationships and sales into another of the nation’s largest rail lines,” stated Axion CEO and President, Steve Silverman. “2011-2012 has seen Axion expand its impact in railroads worldwide while our performance has served to document the viability of the product as a substitute for standard materials, particularly in difficult or problematic areas the rail lines face. These ties are specifically going into an area where ties quickly degrade due to moisture and damaging infestation. We’re pleased to note that our ties are impervious to water or insect damage and will not need replacement for many, many years.”
