Capella University, an Accredited Online University, Launches New PhD in Business Management and Expands DBA Program

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high-quality online degree programs for working adults, has announced a new doctoral-level business degree, a PhD in Business Management, which is launching with five specializations, Finance, General Business Management, Human Resource Management, Leadership, and Marketing. Capella added the new program and specializations to deliver the advanced business acumen needed in today's complex, global business environment, and to help address the global shortage of qualified business faculty. The online university also added two new Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) specializations, Human Resource Management, and Leadership, focused on advanced skills for business practitioners who want to differentiate themselves as corporate leaders and consultants, and who also may want to teach.

New PhD in Business Management integrates key knowledge areas needed in today's business world
Capella's new PhD in Business Management is designed to meet the needs of senior-level professionals and faculty who want deep subject matter expertise, along with the scholarly research, writing, and critical thinking skills needed to make a measurable impact on their career and their organization. The core curriculum integrates such key knowledge areas as the use of technology in organizational decision making; ethics and its application to business decision making and leadership; the use of a systems-thinking approach to problem solving; and the incorporation of global perspectives in business-related scholarly research and organizational decision making.

PhD in Business Management students can choose from the following specializations: Finance, General Business Management, Human Resource Management, Leadership, and Marketing. Each PhD specialization, with the exception of General Business Management, shares four specialization courses with its DBA counterpoint, providing valuable synergies within the courseroom. The General Business Management specialization provides a wide range of electives from which students can build a program that incorporates their specific educational and professional goals.

DBA adds specializations in Human Resource Management and Leadership
Capella's online DBA features a prescribed course sequence, ongoing mentoring, and built-in dissertation milestones designed to provide students with a clear path toward completing their DBA in three years. A global perspective is integrated throughout the curriculum and students can participate in an optional international experience that provides firsthand experience of the role culture plays in global business operations. Both the Human Resource Management and Leadership specializations feature a core curriculum of applied research, strategy, leadership, and ethics focused on developing the advanced skills and knowledge needed to lead organizations, provide strategic advice, and educate the next generation of business professionals.

The Human Resource Management specialization courses, which are shared by the DBA and PhD programs, focus on diverse demographic and cultural perspectives, global workforce issues, the influence of new technologies on the workplace, and the impact of the dynamic external work environments on human resource management practices. The shared Leadership specialization courses are designed to build leadership skills that benefit organizations and the broader business community and increase students' capabilities to develop leaders at all levels of an organization. In all specializations shared by the two doctoral business programs, the PhD program features a fifth specialization course focused on deep, theoretical research, providing PhD students the opportunity to conduct original research that advances the field.

Review of the PhD in Business Management specializations is pending in KS, ND, SC, and WA.

In accordance with U.S. Department of Education (DOE) new advance notice requirements, a notification for the new PhD in Business Management program will be submitted to the DOE. This program may be subject to additional review and approval by the DOE, which could result in a potential delay in learners being able to start these specializations. If this program is subject to additional review, the DOE will notify Capella University at least 30 days prior to the scheduled start date. Capella University proactively will keep applicants and learners enrolled in this program fully informed of any actions taken by the DOE that may affect their ability to successfully begin classes as originally scheduled.
