ATLANTA--()--Today, The City of Atlanta, Georgia announced the availability of Smart911, a national public safety service which will provide 9-1-1 call takers with critical citizen safety information to reduce 9-1-1 response times and improve incident outcomes. Smart911 allows citizens to create a free and secure Safety Profile for 9-1-1 that will automatically display to 9-1-1 call takers immediately upon placing a 9-1-1 call. Atlanta’s 420,000 plus citizens, can easily create their Safety Profile for the national safety database at www.Smart911.com.
“The city of Atlanta is committed to making our city a safe place for everyone”
“The city of Atlanta is committed to making our city a safe place for everyone,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “By creating a Smart911 profile online, first responders will have the critical information available to them when responding to 911 calls. Through this confidential and secure exchange of information, we’ll be able to better serve our residents and the greater community.”
“We are very excited about the addition of this service to our response efforts,” said Atlanta Police Chief George Turner. “Citizens have the ability to include such information as the names and photos of family members, medical conditions (such as disabilities or allergies), home addresses of mobile phone callers, and other rescue notes. This additional information allows us to arrive on scene with a better understanding of the situation.”
The cities of Alpharetta and Chamblee along with Georgia Tech will also deploy Smart911 and join 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) ChatComm (composed of Sandy Springs, John’s Creek and Dunwoody), which has been successfully leveraging Smart911 for more than a year. “Having additional communities install this service adds to our ability to respond to citizens faster and more effectively. If a citizen lives in Alpharetta and works in Atlanta, their profile travels with them, and is available to 9-1-1 and our response teams regardless of which PSAP receives the call,” said Atlanta Fire Rescue Department Chief Kelvin Cochran. “As long as the 9-1-1 center has Smart911 implemented, that citizen’s profile will be available.”
Smart911 is free to citizens, and supports citizen demand for the ability to easily provide and manage special needs data. “Individuals with a specific medical condition, disability or impairment who may require additional response efforts have been very supportive of this system,” stated Deputy Chief Shawn Jones of the Support Services Division. “Being able to know that the reason a person is not speaking is because they may be having an allergic reaction to a bee sting or have a hearing impairment gives us a great advantage in responding to them effectively.”
“We are excited to extend Smart911 to the City of Atlanta,” said Tom Axbey, President and CEO, Rave Mobile Safety/Smart911. “Smart911 adoption is rapidly growing throughout municipalities and through citizen registrations. By providing additional information during 9-1-1 calls, more and more citizens will be better protected during emergencies.”
