SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Archimedes Inc., a healthcare modeling company, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Minnesota’s Fairview Health Services for the use of Archimedes’ Individualized Guidelines and Outcomes (IndiGO) platform, a physician and patient decision support tool. Initially, Fairview Health Services will use IndiGO among patients with cardiovascular disease and diabetes. No additional information regarding the agreement was disclosed.

Guidelines for care are crucially important aides to decision making in health care. Currently, physicians use what are described as population-based guidelines, such as the defined normal range for blood glucose levels and blood pressure, which typically focus on one risk factor or condition and use finite parameters to determine whether or not a patient should receive treatment. These guidelines also help assess a patient’s risk for developing diabetes and having a heart attack or stroke. Because population-based guidelines use finite parameters, there are limitations when it comes to the continuous and changing nature associated with these risks. Individualized guidelines, which can be created via Archimedes’ IndiGO platform, can address these limitations by taking into account up to 30 different person-specific risk factors, making it possible to both increase quality and reduce costs.

IndiGO analyzes person-specific health information from a patient’s electronic health record, then applies advanced algorithms which incorporates clinical evidence related to diseases, behaviors, and interventions. The results generated by IndiGO provide a graphical representation of an individual’s risk of having a heart attack or stroke, developing diabetes, and the predicted impact of interventions, such as lifestyle changes and medications that are most effective at reducing these risks. IndiGO and individualized guidelines can be used at the point-of-patient care, involving the patient in the decision making process and improving collaboration between patient and provider.
