ATLANTA--()--MedAssets (NASDAQ: MDAS) today announced that Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System (SCLHS), a 2,545-bed, not-for-profit health system located at Lenexa, Kan., recently joined the growing list of healthcare organizations electing to extend its use of MedAssets Spend and Clinical Resource Management solutions after realizing swift and significant financial results.
“As one of the largest providers of total cost management solutions, MedAssets is delivering service expertise integrated with innovative, strategic capabilities that are making a positive financial difference for healthcare organizations across the country”
To date, SCLHS has achieved $27 million in savings through use of MedAssets group purchasing organization (GPO), supply chain management services and procurement solutions - $7.5 million in the first seven months of 2011 alone. These savings equate to more than 6 percent of the health system’s annualized supply expenditures.
The new, multi-million dollar agreement continues SCLHS’ use of MedAssets industry-leading GPO and outsourcing services, while adding the following technology-enabled services to further pursue total cost management opportunities: Service Line Analytics, Automated Payment Exchange and Clinical Cost Management consulting. Through these services, SCLHS will engage MedAssets experts and utilize proprietary data and analytics to continuously review all clinical service lines across its 11 hospitals and four clinics, located in California, Colorado, Kansas and Montana.
“We expect this new agreement will take us beyond conventional supply chain cost savings models to identify new areas of savings opportunities,” said Lydia Jumonville, senior vice president and chief financial officer, Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System. “We also expect the analytic services to help achieve better control over the cost and utilization of resources and supplies while continuing to provide choice for our clinicians in delivering high-quality care to our patients.”
Strong GPO Conversions and 50+ Clients Opting for Technology-Enabled Services
Year-to-date, more than 20 acute-care organizations - from community-based, not-for-profit hospitals to large, integrated delivery networks - have converted to MedAssets from incumbent GPOs, and an additional 50 acute-care healthcare organizations have opted to renew MedAssets GPO services while adding one or more of the company’s innovative technology-enabled services. In addition, more than 7,000 non-acute healthcare providers now rely on MedAssets GPO for supplies, bringing the company’s non-acute client base close to 100,000.
“As one of the largest providers of total cost management solutions, MedAssets is delivering service expertise integrated with innovative, strategic capabilities that are making a positive financial difference for healthcare organizations across the country,” said John Bardis, chairman, president and chief executive officer. “Our company’s capabilities are both proven and compelling. We are gratified that Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth and other prestigious healthcare organizations increasingly are aligning with us for our broad range of solutions and services designed in combination to aggressively manage the total cost of care, yet preserve the sanctity of the healthcare mission.”
