McAfee Endpoint Security Management Goes Beyond the Operating System

McAfee ePO Deep Command Helps Enable Scalable Security Management to Lower Security Operations Costs and Optimize Security

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FOCUS 11 -- McAfee today announced an extension of its leading endpoint security management offering to provide customers with secure and remote security management access to PCs that may be powered off or disabled. McAfee ePO™ Deep Command offers beyond-the-operating system management, allowing security administrators to reduce operation costs while enhancing their security posture. McAfee is broadening security management by taking advantage of hardware-based capabilities built into laptop and desktop PCs featuring Intel Core™ i5 vPro™ and Intel Core™ i7 vPro™ processors. By using Intel Active Management Technology (AMT), McAfee ePO Deep Command helps enable secure remote access regardless of the PC power state so IT administrators can remotely remediate compromised systems, enable “green” security initiatives, wake and patch systems, as well as apply proactive security.

“Enterprise PCs must be available for end users to be productive”

Utilizing the Intel AMT Alarm Clock feature, McAfee ePO Deep Command gives security administrators full control to power on PCs and executes security tasks. With the ability to remotely wake up a PC, companies can now put in place green power management practices without sacrificing security access. Enterprises could save hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual power costs by powering down endpoints, while preserving the confidence that they can access the endpoints for security purposes. As an example, an enterprise with 20,000 nodes could save an estimated annual cost of $600,000.

“Enterprise PCs must be available for end users to be productive,” said Brian Foster, senior vice president of product management at McAfee. “McAfee ePO Deep Command enables security administrators to quickly respond to disabled PCs with a remote call for help functionality to ensure proper security is in place to protect against today’s fast propagating threats. McAfee ePO Deep Command allows enterprises to reduce the cost of security operations and manage endpoint security beyond-the-operating system.”

McAfee is the first to deliver remote fast call for help through Intel AMT to the McAfee® ePolicy Orchestrator® platform to improve PC remediation time when the operating system is disabled or damaged. McAfee ePO Deep Command is unique in that it can send any number of security tasks to an endpoint, i.e. updating a DAT file, making a security policy change and running an on-demand scan. This allows the security administrators to quickly assess the necessary steps needed to remediate the endpoint, allowing the user to get back to work faster.

McAfee ePO Deep Command Benefits:

  • Optimize Security – Allows IT administrators to manage powered-off or disabled PCs to execute security updates and enable remote remediation of security issues.
  • Lower Security Costs – Remote security management reduces the number of IT desk side visits required to remediate disabled systems.
  • Save Time - Improves IT service levels with immediate access to endpoints regardless of network access.
  • Go Green - Allows adoption of power management programs to conserve energy without compromising security.

“McAfee ePO Deep Command and Intel Core vPro processors provide a compelling security management solution that enables malware detection and removal regardless of the PC’s power state,” said Rick Echevarria, vice president, Intel Architecture Group and general manager of Business Client Platforms at Intel. “With the ePO Deep Command taking advantage of unique vPro capabilities, IT regains control over its PC fleet through remote remediation of compromised systems, cost- and power-saving opportunities, and the application of policy-based proactive security measures beyond what can be provided within the OS alone. Together, Intel and McAfee are providing powerful workflow capabilities for IT to quickly define and deploy more secure computing environments as well as respond to events and issues as they arise.”
