Kennedy Health Selects Fibertech Networks to Provide Fiber Optic Connectivity

Network Will Connect Multiple Locations Providing Significant Operating and Cost Efficiencies

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--()--Kennedy Health, a 619-bed health services delivery system serving the communities of southern New Jersey, recently upgraded its communications network to strengthen its position as one of the country’s leading integrators of Information Technology systems within the healthcare industry. Kennedy recently deployed high-speed network connectivity from Fibertech Networks to connect five of its major locations to support a number of its new communications initiatives.

This new network connectivity is a major upgrade to the Kennedy IT system, providing it with broadband infrastructure for the implementation of numerous multimedia and IP-based applications. Kennedy has already deployed a data-intensive PACS and Teleradiology system over the network, dramatically increasing the speed the hospital system can process information. The network has also helped improve overall productivity by making it easier to record, retrieve and transmit everything from patient records to financial reports.

“We are in total control of our network while decreasing our costs and increasing the bandwidth available to patient data,” said Mike Archer, AVP, Network Services for Kennedy Health. “It has provided us with a scalable foundation for delivering multimedia and high-speed data and Internet services, in line with our continued focus on providing the best and most cost-effective patient care.”

Kennedy now has diversely-routed Gigabit Ethernet circuits in a ring topology with dual entrances into each of their five major facilities from Fibertech. It also now has a dark fiber connection to a large data aggregation point in Philadelphia allowing Kennedy to control its Internet connectivity and provide diversity with 3rd party long distance carriers.

“With the ability to transport medical images such as MRI’s, cat scans or digital x-rays from hospitals to outpatient clinics or medical labs, this network builds on our commitment to building the hospital of the future, where every patient gets the right care in the right way every time,” added Archer.

In providing these broadband services to Kennedy, Fibertech leveraged its existing 350-mile fiber optic network footprint in and around Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. The company has been providing similar services to area businesses since 2009.

“We are honored that Kennedy Health chose Fibertech for their network connectivity needs,” said Mike Hurley, VP Sales and Marketing for Fibertech. “It’s quite gratifying to know that we’re providing infrastructure that will supply Kennedy and the Southern New Jersey community with financial benefits for years to come, while at the same time enabling administrative, teaching and patient IT applications that were previously bandwidth constrained.”
