Nuxeo Introduces Nuxeo Integrated Development Environment

Eclipse-based Environment for the Nuxeo Platform Accelerates Development of Content Management Applications

BOSTON & PARIS--()--Nuxeo, the provider of an open source content management platform for business applications, today announced the availability of the Nuxeo Integrated Development Environment (IDE), a plugin that brings support into Eclipse for the Nuxeo Platform, facilitating customization for developers, whether they are new to the Nuxeo technology or experts.

“Nuxeo IDE is a welcome contribution for the solution architects who rely on Eclipse and the Nuxeo Platform for their enterprise content management development and execution,” said Mike Milinkovich, executive director, Eclipse Foundation. “Nuxeo has a history of synchronizing its custom technologies with the Eclipse community, accelerating open source innovation for all developers.”

Nuxeo IDE bridges the gap between Nuxeo Studio, the hosted configuration environment, and do-it-yourself development, offering a streamlined development process on the Nuxeo Platform.

By design, the Nuxeo Platform is highly customizable and extensible, thanks to its OSGi-based plugin model, enabling developers and solution architects to build content management applications that correspond to many diverse use cases. The large majority of customization work can be managed by Nuxeo Studio, a powerful and intuitive graphical toolset for configuring Nuxeo Platform applications. However, extending the Nuxeo Platform to create new features requires more advanced development work, which includes writing new source code. This was previously reserved only for experienced Java developers familiar with the Nuxeo Platform.

The Nuxeo IDE offers a developer-friendly environment for customization work that enables all developers – from beginners to experts – to take advantage of the nearly limitless possibilities for extending the Nuxeo Platform.

Key features include:

  • Hot reload for no restart requirements to see live changes in a Nuxeo instance;
  • Templates and Wizards used to guide the creation of new plugins, including content operations, content services, content converters, web apps and user actions;
  • Deployment profiles to quickly deploy and test on different environments or versions;
  • Code completion for the content model when bound to a Nuxeo Studio project;
  • Automated dependency management for Maven-based projects, enabling generation and management of POM files;
  • Integration of Nuxeo Shell to facilitate development and debugging.

“With Nuxeo IDE, we are building on our strategy of providing a content management platform that developers love,” said Eric Barroca, Nuxeo CEO. “This offering is unique in the market, and it’s filling a real void in the content management space by putting the power in the hands of solution architects to build sustainable applications that fit within their context.”

For content management application builders who want to create sophisticated yet sustainable solutions based on the Nuxeo Platform, the Nuxeo IDE Eclipse plugin enables efficient, streamlined development that capitalizes on, and complements, the Nuxeo Studio configuration environment.

The first version of the Nuxeo IDE is available immediately on the Eclipse Marketplace and Nuxeo website. An Eclipse member, Nuxeo values collaboration with its community for the next release of the plugin, as well as for the other Eclipse projects Nuxeo has contributed. Architects, developers and Nuxeo fans are encouraged to provide feedback or ask questions.
