BOSTON--()--OpenStack Conference, Boston

In a move that underscores the benefits of open source cloud computing, MPSTOR (http://www.mpstor.com/) today released OrkestraTM, a new cloud services platform that is based around OpenStackTM, the open-source, massively scalable, cloud operating system launched by NASA and Rackspace in 2010. Orkestra allows data center managers to utilize existing IT infrastructure, reducing capital expenditure costs and removing the risks associated with being locked in to one brand of hardware.

“Products such as Orkestra are helping the widespread adoption of OpenStack, in both public and private cloud configurations, by providing platforms that are easier to install and that can be used with off-the-shelf hardware,” said Nigel Beighton, vice president Technology at Rackspace.

In addition to reducing installation and capital expenditure costs, Orkestra's ability to automatically provision scale-out storage can also help cloud service providers increase operational efficiency and reduce operational costs.

“MPSTOR understands the complexity and cost associated with starting and growing a state-of-the-art cloud service provider environment,” said Tony McEnroe, CEO of MPSTOR. “Our goal is to offer businesses of all sizes a wide range of support options, including installation and commissioning, for both OpenStack and Orkestra deployments.”

“It is noteworthy that MPSTOR is offering its customers the ability to deploy on-demand compute instances and customize them to handle particular workloads, as well as scalable on-demand storage units,” said Brian Garett, vice president, ESG Lab, Enterprise Strategy Group. “There is a growing market demand for a new generation of cloud infrastructure, platform services and cloud solutions that are open and transparent from end to end across APIs, infrastructure and software stack.”
