DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/28fa31/argentina_telecomm) has announced the addition of the "Argentina Telecommunications Report Q4 2011" report to their offering.
Another quarter of strong growth for Argentina's mobile market is notable, given that the market is one of the most mature in Latin America. It retains its position as one of the most advanced markets in Latin America going into Q411. Mobile penetration in the country is around 133%, and reported the fastest growth rate since December 2009 in June 2011. Around 1.5mn new subscribers were added in Q211, taking the total to 54.7mn, an 8% growth rate year on year. With the development of mobile broadband, BMI holds a positive view on future growth in the market, as adoption of the new technology continues to drive the mobile market.
The internet market also continues to expand rapidly. Argentina had around 27mn internet users at the end of 2010. This marks a high level of growth in the internet market in 2010, and demonstrates the effectiveness of the government's National Broadband Plan, Argentina Conectada. The fixed broadband sector maintained a steady rate of growth through 2011, although customers are increasingly opting to access the internet through mobile broadband options. As an alternative, mobile broadband is very attractive, particularly to those subscribers that have not had a fixed broadband connection previously. This means operators will have to work extra hard to encourage subscribers to take up fixed broadband options.
This quarter has brought bad news for Pay TV operators, following a ruling that 220 new Digital Terrestrial Television channels are to be made available. Currently, Argentina's TDT service offers 29 channels. The new proposed channels will increase this to 249, with 110 channels to be granted to the private sector, and 110 to non profit/ governmental sources.
