Québec Virtual Hospital Program Adopts TotalExam 2 Camera

The telemedicine equipment purchase reflects growing international interest in GlobalMed solutions

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--()--McGill University Hospital Centre in Montréal, Canada, has ordered 95 TotalExam™2 Examination Cameras from Scottsdale, Arizona-based GlobalMed for its telemedicine program in the province of Québec. GlobalMed, the industry leader in telemedicine design, manufacturing and marketing, developed TotalExam to deliver crystal clear digital close-ups of the skin, eyes and throat. The purchase made through GlobalMed TruPartner™ Sono Vidéo of Montréal also includes 10 TotalENT™ systems. TotalENT is GlobalMed’s illumination device that uses a fiber optic cable to provide light for its video camera. TotalENT comes with an otoscope, but other scopes can be attached to the fiber optic cable to examine the nose and throat.

Johanne Desrochers, N MSc, Associate Director, Telehealth, Administrator of the Pediatric Network & Northern and Native Health Program, McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), and Co-President for Telehealth, McGill RUIS (Réseau Universitaire Intégré de Santé), said the telemedicine equipment will be deployed throughout the virtual hospital system. “This territory covers two-thirds of Québec, and many of the 1.7 million residents live in remote and isolated parts of the province,” she said. “[The equipment] will give patients access to consults with physicians trained in specialties like dermatology, otolaryngology, wound management, pediatrics and family medicine.”

“The care, attention and dedication that the McGill personnel showed in this tender was commendable,” said Joel E. Barthelemy, GlobalMed Managing Director and American Telemedicine Association Board Member. “We are honored to work with them and our stellar TruPartner, Sono Vidéo.”

Benoît Guilbert, Senior Integration Video/Multimedia Specialist for Sono Vidéo, negotiated the purchase with McGill, and said he was pleased with the opportunity to be part of the new virtual hospital with GlobalMed. “I know that we have the chance to create a unique workflow that will help make this project a complete success, one that will make a difference in the lives of many,” he said.
