JOPLIN, Mo.--()--John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts today announced that the company’s 262-room/suite Holiday Inn Joplin Convention Center and Spa, just off I-44 and US71, will be the host site of a large-scale, red carpet fundraising event. To be held Sunday, August 28, from 2-8 p.m. CT, the charitable event will benefit United Way’s Joplin Tornado Relief Fund. Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Holiday Inn Joplin is collaborating with Show Me the Ozarks magazine, as the publication celebrates its 10th anniversary, to bring together numerous area retailers and entertainment providers for a day of caring, style and fun.
John Q. Hammons’ Holiday Inn and Residence Inn are located in the same hospitality complex, a location that served as the heart of emergency relief efforts after the deadly tornado and also as temporary housing for residents displaced by the storm.

On August 28 at 3615 Range Line Road, family fun begins at 2 p.m. with bounce houses and hot air balloon rides. Several sponsored booths will feature family entertainment, an array of food, fashion, jewelry, fine art, and health and beauty specialists. Admission is $10 per person and free for children under age 2.
The community fundraiser will culminate with an evening of elegance featuring display tables, an upscale fashion show at 4:30 p.m., and a wine-pairing dinner at 6 p.m. Cost is $75 a person.

According to Lee Radcliff, editor/publisher of Show Me the Ozarks magazine, the red carpet fundraising event in Joplin is expected to draw hundreds of attendees from a 60-mile radius. “We are experiencing an overwhelming positive response from the business community to get involved and support the event. We anticipate raising more than $20,000 for the United Way’s Joplin Tornado Relief Fund,” Radcliff said. “The public will have the opportunity to really enjoy themselves, while supporting an important cause in their own backyard.”
