Ioxus Holds Grand Opening Of New Headquarters in Oneonta, N.Y.

Site to House Growing Staff, State-of-the-art Manufacturing Facility

ONEONTA, N.Y.--()--Ioxus, Inc., a manufacturer of premium performance ultracapacitor technology for transportation, alternative energy, medical, industrial and consumer product markets, is holding the official grand opening of its facility in the former National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, N.Y., this Thursday, July 21. The company’s new headquarters, which includes a state-of-the-art ultracapacitor manufacturing facility, will house Ioxus’ growing staff as it prepares to meet the needs of the worldwide cleantech market.

“The need for energy storage solutions is expanding around the globe as organizations look for ways to create greener applications in industries ranging from automotive to power generation,” said Ioxus CEO Mark McGough. “To meet that demand, Ioxus has spent almost $1 million renovating the former Soccer Hall of Fame building to provide a fivefold increase in space and will double its number of employees this year and add 50 percent more next year. We’re pleased to bring those jobs to New York, where we founded our business and have built deep ties to this community.”

Ioxus’ headquarters is the only fully vertically integrated ultracapacitor manufacturing facility in the United States. Ultracapacitors are rechargeable energy storage devices that are used by themselves to provide power, and in conjunction with other energy sources, such as batteries, to prolong life. The company, which is gaining traction in the international energy storage market, announced a $21 million round of venture capital in April, including funds from Energy Technology Ventures (a GE-NRG Energy-ConocoPhillips joint venture), Northwater Capital through its Northwater Intellectual Property Fund, Aster Capital (representing Alston, Schneider Electric and Rhodia) and return investor Braemar Energy Ventures.

Senator Charles Schumer said, “At a time when jobs are priority one for Americans and New Yorkers, it is heartening to see Ioxus grow and prosper. I have had the pleasure of working with Ioxus since its inception in 2007, and am proud I secured more than $1.4 million in federal funding for this job-creating company. In 2010, I had the privilege of visiting Ioxus’ state-of-the-art facility and meeting its dedicated and professional workforce. This is an exciting time for Ioxus, the great city of Oneonta and for the many professionals who will join the company in its new home.”

“Even in the face of one of the most challenging economies, Mohawk Valley’s manufacturing is on the move,” Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said. “Our manufacturers powered us through the last century, and businesses like Ioxus are leading the way to power us through this century, developing new clean energy technologies so we can see ‘Made In America’ again, starting right here in New York.”

“I had the pleasure of visiting Ioxus last month to see first-hand the advancements it is bringing to energy storage, and it is doing so right here in Oneonta,” said U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna. “Ioxus is a high-tech success story, and its efforts to bring jobs to upstate New York are admirable. I wish Ioxus much continued success and look forward to it being part of the Oneonta community for years to come.”

“Ioxus is perfecting a game-changing technology – while at the same time growing cleantech jobs right here in upstate New York,” said Francis J. Murray Jr., president and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), which has provided $2.1 million in funding for a number of Ioxus projects, as well as providing other business assistance. “NYSERDA is proud to help support this innovative company, just one of the many clean-energy firms that are thriving in our state.”

“NY-BEST congratulates Ioxus on the grand opening of the Oneonta corporate and manufacturing facility and looks forward to working with its leadership to continue building a vibrant energy storage sector in New York State,” said William Acker, executive director of the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium, Inc. “The creation of this type of facility in New York, as the only one of its kind in the United States, will facilitate our mission in conjunction with NYSERDA to establish New York as a hub for the energy storage industry.”
