Foxwoods June 2011 Slot Revenue Unchanged from a Year Ago

MASHANTUCKET, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Foxwoods Casino Resort and MGM Grand at Foxwoods today reported that its June 2011 slot revenue was unchanged from a year ago despite a modest decline in total handle. Slot revenue for June 2011 was $51.0 million, the same as June 2010. Total handle for June 2011 was down 3 percent to $616.4 million from the $636.9 million reported last year. Owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Foxwoods contributed $13.8 million this month to the State of Connecticut special revenue fund.

“Along those lines, we continue to invest in advanced slot technologies and a variety of new gaming products and entertainment attractions, and are well on our way toward replacing over 1000 slot machines”

“Our monthly slot revenue appears to be stabilizing and we are beginning to experience the benefits of a more efficient, more customer-focused operation capable of improving its key customer offerings and its bottom line at the same time,” said Foxwoods CEO Scott C. Butera.

“Along those lines, we continue to invest in advanced slot technologies and a variety of new gaming products and entertainment attractions, and are well on our way toward replacing over 1000 slot machines,” Butera said. “If the economy continues to recover, we believe we can leverage these improvements into new customer relationships and long-term profitable growth.”

Each month, Foxwoods reports slot revenue to the Connecticut State Division of Special Revenue. The report is released at mid-month and covers the prior business month.

About the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation

The Mashantucket Pequots are a native Algonquin people in southeastern Connecticut who endured centuries of conflict, survival, and continuity on and around one of America’s oldest Indian reservations, established in 1666. As the first native people within the borders of the continental United States to suffer attempted genocidal massacre by Puritan Colonists in 1637, the Pequots and their repatriation is an unprecedented story of restoration exhibited in detail at the Tribe’s world-class Museum and Research Center (www.pequotmuseum.org). Today, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation owns the largest resort casino in North America, Foxwoods Resort Casino (www.foxwoods.com), along with several other economic ventures, including the Lake of Isles Golf Course (www.lakeofisles.com); a joint-venture partnership establishing the MGM Grand at Foxwoods; and Foxwoods Development Company, dedicated to world-class resort development throughout the United States and Caribbean. All together, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation remains one of the State of Connecticut’s highest tax payers and largest employers, and has contributed more than $3 billion to the state of Connecticut in accordance with the Tribe’s gaming-revenue-sharing agreement, established in 1993. Likewise, the Tribe provides significant financial contributions to state and local nonprofit organizations that support neighboring communities.
