Wireless Innovation Forum Approves Model for Coordination of International SCA Standards at Working Meeting

Announce Upcoming Interoperability Workshop at Next Working Meeting in Montreal This September

BRUSSELS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Wireless Innovation Forum (www.WirelessInnovation.org) announced the approval of a recommendation, “Model for Coordination of International SCA Standards,” and the advancement of key projects advancing software defined radio, cognitive radio and dynamic spectrum access technologies during its 69th Working Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, June 20-22.

“SDR Waveform Portability Business Model for International Tactical Radio.”

The Model for Coordination of International SCA Standards provides a model for coordination of international SCA Standards organized around the Wireless Innovation Forum Coordinating Committee on International SCA Standards, structured according to two mainstream axes: coordination of international SCA standards as such and production of coordinated international SCA Standards. It provides clarifications concerning the scope of International SCA Standards and an overview of the current status of international SCA Standards development, with an associated vision as delivered by early members of the Advisory Council (JTRS JPEO and OCCAR-EA ESSOR Programme Division). The recommendation can be found here: http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/4673.

In addition to finalizing this document, the members of the Forum achieved several key milestones during the 69th meeting in advancement of the Forum’s Operations Plan:

  • The International Tactical Radio Special Interest Group completed work on their report on the ”Issues in the Tactical Radio Market Domain,” and began the process of initiating work group ballot.
  • The Roadmap Committee began finalizing the “Top 10 Most Wanted Wireless Innovations” and set plans to release this list by the 70th General Meeting in Montreal, Canada.

Proposals for several new projects were also initiated during the Brussels Meeting:

  • The Cognitive Radio Work Group began discussing the creation of a cognitive radio “Year Book” to be provided as an annual update to the report on “Quantifying the Benefits of Cognitive Radio” published earlier in the year.
  • The International Tactical Radio Special Interest Group began developing a project proposal for “SDR Waveform Portability Business Model for International Tactical Radio.”
  • The Commercial Baseband Processing Technologies Workgroup began work on a proposal for a “4G+ Baseband Design Framework.”

Work on these and other projects will be advanced through weekly committee teleconferences. A complete listing of projects being undertaken by the members of the Forum can be found here: http://www.wirelessinnovation.org/page/Current_Projects

The members of the Forum will reconvene as a group to discuss these projects and other relevant topics at our 70th Working Meeting to be held in Montreal, Canada, 12-15 September 2011. Supported by Platinum Sponsors General Dynamics C4 Systems, Harris Corporation, and Indra Systemas, and Gold Sponsor Ultra Electronics, the meeting will also feature a workshop on “Enabling Interoperability,” allowing the commercial, defense and public safety communities to share needs, expectations and capabilities to ensure that communications interoperability is achieved. The workshop will feature a full program with speakers from Public Safety Canada, Canadian Police Research Center, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Industry Canada, FCC, NPSTC, US Army LandWarNet/Battle Command, US Army, Canadian Department of National Defence, and key industry players including Ultra Electronics, Indra, Harris, Motorola, Datron, Spectrum Signal Processing, and Etherstack.
