Toshiba’s Hybrid Vascular X-Ray Technologies Improve Pediatric Outcomes at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children

Infinix CF-i Bi-Plane Combined with CAT-880B Table Enables Arnold Palmer to Open Dedicated Hybrid Suite to Treat Pediatric and Complex Congenital Cardiovascular Disease

TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a true hybrid suite, both cath lab and open surgical procedures are performed in a single room. In creating hybrid cath labs, healthcare facilities require imaging technologies that provide the flexibility to quickly and easily access both the patient and ancillary equipment. Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Fla., a leading children’s hospital, recently installed Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc.’s InfinixTM CF-i bi-plane system with the CAT-880B hybrid catheterization table for its new dedicated hybrid suite. When combining the five-axis positioner of the Infinix-i system with the tilting and cradling features of the hybrid table, physicians are able to obtain optimal image angles while having unprecedented patient access.

“Toshiba continues to be a leader in developing technologies uniquely designed for the hybrid setting, allowing healthcare providers to diagnose cardiovascular disease more accurately, efficiently and safely”

Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children will use its new hybrid cath lab for complex interventions and open surgical procedures on patients of all sizes, from newborns to young adults. The Infinix CF-i bi-plane system with the five-axis positioner allows for superior patient access, an extremely important feature for hybrid procedures. The Infinix CF-i bi-plane has a unique ability to rotate the floor-mounted C-arm and position the ceiling-mounted C-arm to create 180-degree patient access around the head end of the table.

“The unique design of the Infinix-i system with its five-axis positioner provides outstanding access to the patient and equipment during interventional and open surgical procedures,” said Dr. David Nykanen, director of Cardiology, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. “The 3D capabilities of the system are also changing the way disease is diagnosed. For example, stenosis that couldn’t be viewed in a single plane is more easily and accurately identifiable with 3D reconstructions.”

The Infinix-i’s 3D acquisition ability allows physicians to view a three-dimensional perspective of the anatomy. 3D reconstruction is ideal for optimizing vessel-viewing angles prior to intervention and helps determine the proper size of interventional devices to be used for planning and treatment. Physicians are also able to see complicated structures with clarity and view images that were impossible to obtain in 2D.

Toshiba’s CAT-880B hybrid catheterization table is designed to assist clinicians during imaging or surgery to allow for greater positioning flexibility and patient access. The table functionality with side-to-side cradle and head-to-toe tilt permits clinicians to angle the table in the best position to quickly complete procedures. The flexibility and ergonomic design enhances the clinician’s ability to work around the patient and accommodate views that conventional angiographic tables cannot achieve.

“At Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, we are committed to offering our patients the most advanced technology to diagnose and treat pediatric disease,” said John Bozard, president, Arnold Palmer Medical Center. “One example of this is our development of a dedicated hybrid cath lab with Toshiba imaging equipment to bring the latest technology and the flexibility to treat numerous cardiac conditions from a single room.”

“Toshiba continues to be a leader in developing technologies uniquely designed for the hybrid setting, allowing healthcare providers to diagnose cardiovascular disease more accurately, efficiently and safely,” said Stephen Bumb, director, X-ray Vascular Business Unit, Toshiba. “The installation of this equipment at one of the premier pediatric facilities in the country validates the real-world capabilities of our technology to improve patient care.”
