PORTLAND, Ore.--()--Otak, Inc., an award-winning urban design, architecture, planning and engineering firm, announced today it has appointed R. Nicholas Loope, FAIA, as the firm’s President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Loope will oversee operations and lead Otak’s marketing, business development and technology initiatives, working closely with HanmiGlobal Co. Ltd., the firm’s new global strategic partner.

Mr. Loope has built a distinguished career as an architect, executive manager, academic and consultant to the design profession. He was the founder and president of HL Design Build LLC, a regional design-build and real estate development firm, and a founding member of Parker Design International (PDI), an international design consortium.
Mr. Loope was also President and CEO of the Durrant Group, Inc., a leading architectural and engineering firm in North America. Additionally, he served as the President and Principal Architect of Taliesin Architects Ltd., the continuation of the practice of architecture begun by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1893.
Since 1989, Mr. Loope has been a tenured member of the faculty of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at Arizona State University (ASU). He has authored or co-authored more than 30 articles, papers and book chapters addressing real estate development, professional practice, energy strategies and architectural education.
Mr. Loope has participated in more than 350 architecture projects throughout the United States and abroad. He has earned many professional honors, including Fellow, American Institute of Architects, Distinguished Research Fellow of National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Green Professionals and Walter Harris Fellow, Rotary International.
Mr. Loope earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of Maryland and his Master of Environmental Design degree at Yale University. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Program for Management Development.
