About Japan is the First Produced Content for GoogleTV to be Distributed, and Globally Shares the Traditions, Culture and Customs of Japan., Together with Their Humor

TOKYO--()--Media Technology Labs, the experimental research arm of Recruit Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward, Hitoshi Kashiwaki, President and CEO), will begin providing the distribution of content for SmartTV, including GoogleTV, etc., called About Japan, on Thursday, June 30, 2011.

* What is About Japan?

About Japan is a service to distribute content that describes the traditions, culture and customs of Japan as found on Wikipedia, mixed in with humor, using an engine that automatically generates video clips by seamlessly combining text, audio, video and images that Recruit developed. The content is not just an audio narrative of text found in Wikipedia, the distribution also includes video clips that use images and videos gathered from around the Web.
A total of 41 vignettes have been prepared on topics ranging from udon and Akihabara to sushi. Each day, 5 to 6 clips will be distributed.
Furthermore, About Japan is content for SmartTV, including GoogleTV. It can also be viewed online by using Google Chrome.

* Verifying the Possibilities of Content Distribution for SmartTV

What we have developed is an engine that automatically generates video clips for SmartTV by collecting information such as text, images and video from a variety of websites online.
Through our first offering, About Japan, we will verify the possibilities of this new technology, generating and distributing content for SmartTV. Our goals for the future include the generation of content that use information from the wide array of fields that Recruit possesses.
