LOS ANGELES--()--Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership announced today that a delegate of teenage alumni will travel to Ireland this summer to participate in the 2011 Albert Schweitzer’s Leadership for Life Youth Leadership Conference. HOBY is the nation’s foremost nonprofit youth leadership development organization.
“Most importantly, they will develop a greater understanding of their own style of leadership and nurture a clear vision of what they would like to achieve as a leader”
The five-day conference, beginning July 24, is expected to bring together 250 youths from around the world, including students from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Korea, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, in addition to the United States. It is being conducted in partnership with Foroige, Ireland’s leading national youth development organization.
“This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure and allows HOBY alumni to take their involvement to a whole new level,” said Javier LaFianza, president and chief executive officer of HOBY. “All of the participating HOBY alumni attended one of our regional seminars when they were high school sophomores, and now they can serve as true ambassadors in an unforgettable cross-cultural learning experience.”
Students at the conference will explore local, national and global issues, and will work to cultivate their own personal strengths and team skills. “Most importantly, they will develop a greater understanding of their own style of leadership and nurture a clear vision of what they would like to achieve as a leader,” said LaFianza, a member of the board of directors of Albert Schweitzer’s Leadership for Life.
The conference will be held at National University of Ireland Maynooth, located about 15 miles outside of Dublin. Events are also scheduled at Trinity College, Ireland’s oldest University and the K-Club, one of the most prestigious Golf Clubs in the Ireland. Following the five-day meeting, the HOBY delegation will spend an additional 2-½ days touring Ireland before departing Dublin on August 1.
