Mark Werner, M.D., Receives the Florida Society of Ophthalmology President’s Recognition Award

PALM BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO), the preeminent professional association for medical and osteopathic doctors who specialize in vision care, is pleased to announce that Mark Werner, M.D., received the President’s Recognition Award at its Annual Meeting, Masters in Ophthalmology, held June 24-26 in Palm Beach, FL.

The President’s Recognition Award is a tremendous honor. The FSO established the President’s Recognition Award to recognize an individual for service and dedication to the FSO and for advancing the development of the specialty. Dr. Werner was given the award to recognize his meritorious service as President of the Miami Ophthalmological Society.

Dr. Werner is a board certified ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist, working alongside Dr. Elizabeth Hodapp, as part of the Glaucoma Consultants of Florida located in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

Dr. Werner graduated magna cum laude in chemistry at Cornell University and later finished AOA at New York Medical College. He completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Florida, followed by a one year clinical glaucoma Fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in 2006.

He is a volunteer faculty member and assistant professor at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, where he is involved with resident and fellow education as a member of the pediatric glaucoma service. Dr. Werner volunteers regularly on weekends at community health screenings. Dr. Werner has coauthored papers in the areas of laser trabeculoplasty, pseudophakic glaucoma, and pediatric glaucoma surgery.
