PALM BEACH, Fla.--()--The Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO), the preeminent professional association for medical and osteopathic doctors who specialize in vision care, installed Ranya G. Habash, M.D., as vice president at its Annual Meeting, Masters in Ophthalmology, held June 24-26 in Palm Beach, FL.
As FSO vice president, Dr. Habash will help lead the nonprofit association, which represents more than 500 medical doctors focused on protecting the medical and surgical specialty of ophthalmology. In addition to active participation in legislative advocacy and the dissemination of responsible information to physicians and patients throughout the state, the FSO also provides continuing medical education opportunities.
Dr. Habash owns her own private ophthalmology practice, West Boca Eye and Cosmetic Center, with her husband and fellow ophthalmologist, Dr. Brent Bellotte. Dr. Habash currently serves on the executive board of the Florida State Society of Ophthalmology and on the executive committee for the West Boca Medical Center Hospital. In 2008, FSO awarded Dr. Habash with the Outstanding Young Ophthalmologist Leadership Award. Dr. Habash is the past president of the Palm Beach County Ophthalmology Society, and one of only a handful of ophthalmologists who have been invited to speak at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s National Convention.
Dr. Habash graduated with honors from Wake Forrest University and received her Medical Degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine. She completed an Internship in Internal Medicine at the Charleston Area Medical Center prior to pursing her Residency in Ophthalmology at the Texas Tech University Department of Ophthalmology.
