LONDON--()--FT Pipeline Systems, provider of a multitude of diverse water pipes, is proud to highlight its involvement in the construction of the London 2012 Games’ Canoe Centre.
Situated on the outskirts of Waltham Abbey and Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire, the white water canoe centre has been built on the site of the River Lee Country Park. The course includes a 300m course and a 160m intermediate or training course, as well as a 10,000sq m lake. The lake feeds a series of pumps which will pump 15 cubic metres of water per second into the 300m course. The white water effect of the run will be created by these pumps, as well as obstacles installed along the course’s track.
The work was conducted by Morrison Utility Services, which used 600mm pipes and respective pipe fittings supplied by FT Pipeline Systems to help divert a water main that was already in place on the site, thereby allowing the company sufficient room to construct the Canoe Centre. Once the Olympic London Games are over, it is hoped the Canoe Centre will become a major sporting venue for canoeists and rafters across the UK suitable for beginners through to elite athletes.
Duncan Frazer, Managing Director of FT Pipeline Systems, said: “At FT Pipeline Systems we’re proud to be involved in the construction of the 2012 Games’ Canoe Centre. We stock a large range of water industry approved, coated and lined steel and ductile piping and pipe accessories, and our extensive range of stock ensured we were fully prepared to supply builders and contractors the necessary equipment to create the fully-functioning canoe centre.”
