NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--David Zinczenko, Editor-in-Chief of Men’s Health and Editorial Director of Women’s Health, has announced that the two brands have teamed up with U. S. Representative Aaron Schock (R – IL) to help inspire Americans to take the ‘Fit For Life’ Summer Challenge. Running as a contest on http://www.menshealth.com/fit-for-summer-challenge from May 9 through August 19, 2011, the ‘Fit for Life’ Summer Challenge will encourage readers to get serious about making healthy changes to their lifestyles. Schock, who Men’s Health has deemed “America’s Fittest Congressman,” can also be seen on the cover of the June 2011 issue, which hits newsstands nationwide on May 24.
“As the fittest [and at 29, the youngest] Congressman, who better than Aaron to help promote a healthy lifestyle,” said Zinczenko. “He is deeply committed to health and fitness and is the perfect spokesperson to help motivate people to change their eating habits and their attitudes towards weight and health – and not just for the summer, but for life.”
“I’m very excited to be working with Men’s Health and Women’s Health on this very important initiative,” said Schock. “The magazines are dedicated to educating people on how to make better choices when it comes to health and nutrition. And together, I hope we can tackle America’s obesity epidemic and make a difference in helping our citizens, especially our younger generation, to get in shape, eat better, and lead happier, healthier lives.”
In the "Fit for Life Summer Challenge," one man and one woman will be chosen to have their weight-loss transformation stories told in the pages of Men’s Health and Women’s Health, respectively—complete with photos. Starting today, May 9, contestants can register at www.MensHealth.com and www.WomensHealthmag.com and submit a "before" picture. Participants are encouraged to use the tips and resources on the ‘Fit for Life’ website (http://www.menshealth.com/fit-for-summer-challenge) to slim down and improve their overall health and fitness. By August 19, contestants are required to take an “after” snapshot for submission after which, editors at Men’s Health and Women’s Health will select the male and female winners who have made the most impressive weight-loss transformation throughout the summer. These winners will be featured in an upcoming issue of the respective magazine.
Schock states, “I think if you want to start talking about healthy lifestyles and staying in shape, then you yourself should do your best to try to be a role model, an example to people you’re trying to convince to do the same.” His story in the June issue of Men’s Health is part of the “Look Great at Any Age” piece highlighting how to look best in your 20s featuring Schock, 30s featuring Old Spice spokesperson Isaiah Mustafa, 40s featuring “Hawaii 5-0” star Daniel Dae Kim and 50s featuring “Avatar” star and villain Stephen Lang.
