Surf’s Up for Summer on FUEL TV

Network airs “Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards,” launches daily Surf Spot programming block presented by Volcom, and adds new surf series to lineup

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FUEL TV, Fox Sports Media Group’s dynamic entertainment and sports network for young males, announces a series of surf-related programming scheduled for the summer months, including the telecast of the “Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards” Sunday, May 1 at 9:00PM ET. In addition, FUEL TV is launching The Surf Spot, a daily surf programming block, and premiering two new surf series: “Storm Surfers” and “The Surf Chronicles 2010.”

The “Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards” presented by Monster Energy honors the greatest big wave surfers in the world tackling the largest waves of the past year. The hour-long awards show names winners in seven divisions, earning a share of the $130,000 in prize money. Sal Masekela (X Games Announcer) hosts the show that includes appearances from members of the legendary rock band Metallica and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Marisa Miller.

Beginning Monday, May 2 at 1:00PM ET, FUEL TV introduces a new, daily one-hour programming block called The Surf Spot presented by Volcom. The Surf Spot features various surf shows and films from the FUEL TV library.

On Tuesday, May 10 at 9:00PM ET, FUEL TV premieres “Storm Surfers,” a documentary style show following former World Champion Tom Carroll and Big Wave Legend Ross Clarke-Jones as they track storms around the continent of Australia in search of the largest, most dangerous waves and attempt to surf them. These fearless adventurers ride 40-foot monsters, battling sub-zero waters, hail storms, and each other in two, one-hour episodes.

Coming Monday, June 27 at 10:00PM ET/PT is “The Surf Chronicles 2010,” a new series that takes an inside look into the 2010 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour. The six, half-hour episodes produced by Red Bull follow the biggest surfers in the world including ten-time World Champion Kelly Slater, two-time World Champion Mick Fanning, South African upstart Jordy Smith, and others.
