REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--DigitalPersona, Inc., a global provider of authentication and endpoint protection solutions, today announced the availability of cross-platform Java APIs that provide fingerprint biometrics on both Linux and Windows®. These fingerprint recognition APIs are now part of the company’s One Touch® for Linux and One Touch for Windows Software Development Kits (SDKs), both of which can be downloaded free of charge. Java programmers can now add advanced biometric authentication to their applications once and then run those applications on multiple operating systems without modification. This helps reduce both the upfront development and ongoing support costs for application developers who add biometric authentication to their solutions. With its latest release, DigitalPersona also boosted the speed and efficiency of the high-performance biometric engine its Linux SDK and added support for a broad range of distributions.
“By offering a consistent Java API on both Linux and Windows, DigitalPersona makes it easy and efficient for application developers to deliver enhanced security and fraud prevention features to all their customers with a single biometrically-enabled application.”
“A growing number of our ISV partners are using Java to meet the needs of both their Windows and Linux customers with a single cross-platform application,” said Jim Fulton, vice president of marketing, DigitalPersona, Inc. “By offering a consistent Java API on both Linux and Windows, DigitalPersona makes it easy and efficient for application developers to deliver enhanced security and fraud prevention features to all their customers with a single biometrically-enabled application.”
In addition to Java APIs, the newest One Touch for Linux 1.6.1 provides:
- Broad Linux Distribution Support – Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - 2.6.32-27-generic (both 32-bit 64-bit); OpenSUSE 11.3 - 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop (32-bit) and 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop (64-bit); Fedora® 14 - 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.i686 (32-bit) and 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64 (64-bit); Support for the Linux kernels from 2.6.32 through 2.6.37
- Language wrappers provided as source – By supplying language wrappers as source, developers can get a better insight into the inner workings of the SDK layer allowing them to create better biometric implementations. Source also helps developers to independently debug their application should coding problems arise.
- New DigitalPersona Fingerprint Recognition Engine 5.0 – DigitalPersona’s new highly-efficient biometric engine reduces memory consumption while providing faster feature extraction and serial verifications.
DigitalPersona’s SDKs incorporate the company’s high-performance fingerprint authentication algorithm which provides fast, accurate fingerprint recognition on a wide range of platforms. In only a few hours, developers may easily integrate fingerprint authentication into their application for use on PCs, embedded devices, point-of-sale (POS) terminals or servers. Sample code is included to illustrate fingerprint capture, extraction and matching operations. Simple architecture diagrams, programming workflow illustrations and detailed documentation help developers implement advanced biometric authentication without hassles. Technical support is available through DigitalPersona’s staff of experienced Support Engineers. For more information on One Touch for Linux visit www.digitalpersona.com/linuxsdk.
