BOCA RATON, Fla.--()--MiX Telematics, a global provider of vehicle tracking and fleet management solutions, has taken a leadership position in the Telematics industry by launching the MiX Carbon Offset Initiative (COI). The service helps fleet operators better manage their carbon emissions by guaranteeing a secure, accessible and cost effective way to offset the greenhouse gas emissions caused by their fleets. MiX Telematics has become carbon neutral and is voluntarily submitting a response to the Carbon Disclosure Project for 2011. This is a globally recognized non-profit organization, which allows leading companies to disclose their CO2 emissions for climate change analysis.
“By understanding an operator’s driving habits, such as harsh acceleration, hard braking or excessive idling, we can help reduce fuel consumption and minimize fleet maintenance and operating costs. While the COI is not mandated, it’s one more way MiX Telematics is developing solutions that help clients work towards climate neutrality.”
“Globally, the road transportation industry is responsible for 18 percent of the world’s CO2 emissions*,” said Brian McCoy, vice president of business development at MiX Telematics North America. “With our new Carbon Offset Initiative, MiX clients can become better corporate citizens by managing the carbon emissions produced by their fleet vehicles. Ultimately, the program will move us towards a climate neutral environment, which can benefit our natural resources and our economy.”
MiX Telematics’ COI assists customers who want to reduce their CO2 emissions, or make their fleets carbon neutral. COI is also suitable for those customers who cannot allocate resources to implement an effective carbon reduction initiative with a long-term value.
“COI is an ideal extension of our products that are being used to monitor driver behavior for fleets across the country,” added McCoy.
Kevin James, CEO of Global Carbon Exchange, a leading sustainability consultancy said, “Companies like MiX Telematics that are proactively forging ahead on their green journey and now extending a carbon offset solution to customers are setting the pace among key industry players. While MiX Telematics’ COI falls within the voluntary offset market, it can be considered a strategic move as it serves to mitigate future risk of non-compliance and carbon taxes.”
