BEIJING--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 4th China Game Developers’ Conference (CGDC) will be held at Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai, neighboring the Shanghai New International Expo Center on July 28-30. The organizing committee recently announced that the Jake Song, one the four godfathers in Korea’s game industry and Father of Lineage, has been invited to be the first keynote speaker of CGDC. He will be the first top Korean game producer who comes to China to give a technical speech. He has chosen “The Development and Evolution of MMORPG” as the topic of his speech.
Jake Song, one of the first-generation developers in the Korean game industry, is known for his works Lineage. In Korea, he enjoys equal popularity with top game producers including Hak Kyu Kim, Father of RO, and he is regarded as one of the four godfathers in the Korean online game industry.
Jake Song has an extraordinary career. In 1993, Jake Song and Kim Jung-Joo established Nexon, currently Korea’s largest online game company. He joined NCsoft in 1997 for the development of the classic MMORPG Lineage. In 2003, he set up the game company XLgames which launched the car racing game XL2 and the highly expected MMORPG ArcheAge.
With such achievements, what does Jake Song think of games? Jake Song earlier told journalists in Beijing that the profession of game producers is hundreds of times superior to doctors and lawyers. He loves game programming, and dreams of benefiting the mankind with online games, a dream that will never die in his lifetime.
In recent years, Jake Song barely presented any new works. However, his latest MMORPG ArcheAge aroused high attention once it was launched. According to Jake Song, he spent 3 years playing WOW. He was shocked by the success of the game, and he decided to create a game as a “fightback,” hence the ArcheAge.
At CGDC 2011, Jake Song will share his thoughts with the attendees:
Since the establishment of the first MMORPG, the developers have been improving the game tactics and technical aspects of the games during a decade. However, what challenges us now is how to continue and develop the genres and styles of MMORPG.
The first-generation online games have presented a virtual world for the gamers, making them experience the joy of online games for the first time. With the second-generation games, the developers have shifted their focus to providing more diversified game modes and content, while adding abundant directions for the games, which are barely seen in the first-generation ones. Then, what is yet to come for the online games?
Jake Song, a legend of online games, the developer of the world’s first text-image MMORPG and the father of the most popular and successful MMORPG Lineage, hopes to share his expectations for the next-generation MMORPG: a dream world based on gamers’ highly free choices.
