Aberdeen Introduces the AberSAN V30 ZFS SAN Storage System, Optimized for Video Surveillance Applications

Features Unlimited Storage Scalability, Powered by NexentaStor

ISC West 2011

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aberdeen LLC, a leading manufacturer of server and storage solutions, announced today the availability of the new AberSAN V30 SAN storage appliance, which brings the simplicity of a network attached storage (NAS) solution to a SAN environment, optimized for the distinct needs of the security and surveillance industry. The AberSAN V30 is based on the Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series and features up to 48TB of native storage capacity. The AberSAN V30 scales to thousands of petabytes of storage within a single volume as necessary, by utilizing the ZFS file system with RAID-Z technology.

“In addition, customers are looking increasingly for enterprise grade solutions to store their video data. Therefore, IMS Research forecasts the growing use of IP SANs and server storage to store video surveillance data over the coming years.”

Yesterday, DCIG and Foskett Services named the AberSAN Z-Series as Best-in-Class in its Expanded Edition of the DCIG 2011 Small Enterprise Storage Array Buyer’s Guide. Aberdeen is capitalizing upon this award winning technology by introducing surveillance the video storage specific AberSAN V30. The Best-in-Class AberSAN Z-Series is known for a “best bang for the buck” feature set, as will the video storage optimized V30.

“Aberdeen’s combination of scalability, performance, flexibility with AberSAN is ideal for smaller enterprises that need to start with less capacity but have the ability to expand as needed,” said Jerome Wendt, co-author and founder, DCIG, LLC. “Until recently, Aberdeen focused primarily on private labeling its storage arrays and systems for other companies. Today, it is selling an increasingly number of targeted solutions under its own brand.”

Aberdeen announced the new AberSAN V30 at the ISC West International Security Conference and Exhibition, taking place at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, April 5-8. Aberdeen is located in booth #6039.

“As video surveillance continues to transition onto the network and a greater number of higher resolution security cameras are being installed, the storage capacity required to record the video will increase,” said William Rhodes, market analyst, Security and Fire Group, IMS Research. “In addition, customers are looking increasingly for enterprise grade solutions to store their video data. Therefore, IMS Research forecasts the growing use of IP SANs and server storage to store video surveillance data over the coming years.”

Aberdeen has more than 20 years of experience providing integrators with quality enterprise-level custom server and storage solutions. The new AberSAN V30 meets the technical needs of any major surveillance expansion program and reduces the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by future-proofing capacity limitations with unlimited storage expansion capabilities. The AberSAN provides enterprise class unified storage resources for centralized environments needing a high-capacity protected storage alternative for any business involved with the planning, deployment and management of a security infrastructure, whilst reducing deployment costs.

"We recognize the need for a cost-effective, high-performance, enterprise class storage system targeted specifically to the needs of today’s data-intensive video security surveillance market,” said Moshe Ovadya, president and chief executive officer of Aberdeen LLC. “The new AberSAN V30 provides the bandwidth and scalability necessary to support any size surveillance deployment, whether in a campus, municipality, casino or other environments. Aberdeen provides a strong combination of unlimited scalable storage, customization and high-performance, with an aggressive price point."

The new AberSAN V30 offers systems integrators, VARs, and distributors involved in the implementation of security systems, storage fluency in project management. Aberdeen brings enterprise class unified storage capabilities with virtualization to the video surveillance industry without vendor lock-in, while delivering superior storage management functionality with a particular focus on virtualized environments. Certain enterprise class features necessary for reliable video data protection include; unlimited snapshots, deduplication, replication, high availability, thin provisioning and scale-out storage capabilities.

“We selected Aberdeen based on the ability of their storage servers to grow as our storage needs grow,” said Paul Tikalsky, president of Legacy Communications, a provider of digital video surveillance, alarm and detection and similar systems. “Aberdeen customized their system for our specific needs, provided very high quality service, and at a price point the large storage providers could not match.”

Aberdeen partner Nexenta Systems, a leader in open storage solutions, has integrated its NexentaStor software, a ZFS-based enterprise grade storage platform, into the AberSAN V30. One of several benefits brought to the IP SAN video storage industry via the ZFS file system, is RAID-Z. This robust RAID architecture provides a level of virtually unlimited hard disk drive parity for protecting against disk failures along with an inherent self healing disk drive RAID feature. Along with an industry leading five-year warranty, the AberSAN is also available for HA clustering and complete fault tolerance to combat points of failure.

“The physical security market, as a whole is experiencing significant growth and a fundamental transition from analog to digital surveillance technologies," said Jason Yoho, vice president of Business Development at Nexenta Systems. "We believe that Aberdeen is uniquely positioned to deliver an IP SAN storage solution designed to provide near limitless scalability by leveraging NexentaStor enterprise features like inherent virtualization, unlimited storage arrays, unlimited snap-shots, thin provisioning and hybrid storage pooling. We are excited to be bringing the much needed benefits of ZFS to the security storage industry."
