Xirrus Ranked #2 Among All Venture-Backed Companies

The Wall Street Journal Placed Xirrus 1st Among Technology-based Venture-Backed Companies and 2nd Among All Venture-Backed Companies

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Xirrus®, the leader in high performance Wi-Fi announced today it has been ranked by The Wall Street Journal 1st among all technology-based venture-backed companies and 2nd among all venture-backed companies, showing once again the tremendous strength of their leadership team and ability to execute in wireless networking. Xirrus’ ranking in The Wall Street Journal’s “The Next Big Thing – The Top 50 Venture-Backed Companies” was based on the success of its venture-capital investors (August Capital, Canaan Partners, Gold Hill Capital, InterWest Partners, QuestMark Partners, U.S. Venture Partners); the amount of capital raised over the last four years; the success of its founders and chief executive (Dirk Gates); the recent growth in the value of the company; and a qualitative ranking among the Dow Jones venture-capital reporters and editors.

“Being selected by The Wall Street Journal for a second year for our leadership and growth speaks volumes to our ability to execute and grow our wireless business”

“Venture capitalists are always looking for companies with a new idea that will prove powerful enough to explode into the marketplace,” said Alan Murray, deputy managing editor of The Wall Street Journal. “The Next Big Thing highlights companies that we believe are worth watching and have a chance to make waves in their industry.”

“Being selected by The Wall Street Journal for a second year for our leadership and growth speaks volumes to our ability to execute and grow our wireless business,” said Dirk Gates, founder and CEO of Xirrus. “More and more organizations are coming to the realization that mobility is critical to their success. Building a Wi-Fi architecture on the same ideas that enabled the cellular market to resolve capacity and scalability has enabled us to speed past competing offerings and give the Enterprise a wireless architecture that replaces immobile wired ports.”

The Next Big Thing is an annual ranking published by The Wall Street Journal. To be eligible for the ranking, a company must be based in the U.S., have raised an equity round of financing in the three years ended Nov. 30, 2010 and have a valuation of $1 billion or less. The ranking was calculated by applying a set of four financial criteria: the track records of success for both a company's founders and management; track records for the investors on its board; the amount of capital raised in the last three years; and the percentage change in a company's valuation in the last year. Dow Jones VentureWire reporters and editors also provided their perspective and expertise beyond the numbers.
