NEW YORK--()--Storage Deluxe, a Manhattan-based owner, developer and manager of self storage properties, today announced their acquisition of properties in Brooklyn and Long Island City, and their subsequent plans to build two new state-of-the-art storage facilities at those locations, bringing convenient storage options to the surrounding areas.
In Brooklyn, NY, Storage Deluxe purchased the former Jewish Press Building, located at 338 3rd Avenue. The four-story, 84,000 square-foot Park Slope building will be renovated to house approximately 1,400 self storage units. The first class facility will feature top-of-the-line security, lighting and climate control, as well as a drive-through loading area.
In Long Island City, NY, Storage Deluxe acquired property at 33-23 Woodside Avenue, directly off Northern Boulevard. The construction, which is being done from the ground up, will result in a six-story, 80,000 square foot facility housing approximately 1,450 self storage units. Like the new location in Park Slope, the Woodside Avenue facility will feature top-of-the-line amenities and units in a range of sizes and prices.
These two new locations, which are both slated to open early next year, will bring the total self storage facilities owned and operated by Storage Deluxe in the New York Metro area to a total of 28. The company provides cramped Metro area dwellers more than 35,000 self storage units, spread over more than 2 million square feet in New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Storage Deluxe was represented by Cohen and Perfetto, LLP on both transactions.
The announcement of the acquisition of the new properties comes on the heels of Storage Deluxe’s latest grand opening in the College Point, Queens, neighborhood. The four-story, 80,000 square-foot location, which opened in December 2010, is located at 124-16 31st Avenue, adjacent to a Home Depot parking lot. The College Point location has approximately 1,250 units and the same upscale amenities that are planned for the two new locations. Storage Deluxe also has two additional facilities undergoing renovation and construction—900 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn (which is currently open and under renovation), as well as 1425 Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx (a three-story, 55,000 square-foot property that is under construction).
When asked about their aggressive development moves over the last six months, Steve Novenstein, president of Storage Deluxe Realty, noted “Storage Deluxe continues to be committed to finding great locations in densely populated areas where we can add to our existing New York Metro area footprint. We know there is nothing the urban resident needs more than storage space, and we are thrilled to be able to consistently provide the best amenities, services and pricing available.”
