(NASDAQ: BBND), a leader in digital video networking, today announced that it had expanded the footprint for its industry leading Switched Digital Video (SDV) solution to the China market with China’s Jiangsu Broadcasting Television Network Corporation Limited (Jiangsu Cable). This is BigBand’s first commercial SDV deployment outside of North America and will free up the bandwidth necessary for the growing demand for more high definition (HD) video on demand (VOD) services in China.
Jiangsu Cable is one of the largest cable operators in China with over 17 million subscribers. The company selected Zhenjiang as the initial regional deployment of SDV within the province and plans to expand to other cities in coming years to address the bandwidth limitations for multi-services delivery. The deployment supports Jiangsu Cable’s vision of “becoming the best quality and most reliable operator of integrated radio and broadcasting network in China”. BigBand was selected because Jiangsu Cable valued BigBand’s market leadership in SDV, its ability to support open standards and protocols, and the demonstrated compatibility with the existing BigBand Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR®) systems that have been widely deployed in Jiangsu’s network.

Today’s announcement marks another key milestone in the relationship between Jiangsu Cable and BigBand. Previously, the companies announced a first-of-a-kind strategic agreement to deliver interactive and personalized video services and the successful roll-out of the BigBand BMR to process and deliver digital television services, including HD and interactive television.
