AFP Launches a New High Performance Delivery System

PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Agence France-Presse (AFP) has rolled out a new high performance real time delivery system to further boost the quality of its services to clients.

MEDI@SAT combines the strengths of satellite networks with the advantages of the Internet to provide worldwide coverage; improved continuity of service; and real-time delivery.

With the introduction of the new system, clients worldwide will access AFP’s various news services via a true multi-service terminal called the Medi@Server which will:

• offer clients more options to receive and manage new multi-media products efficiently and with greater flexibility;
• provide infrastructure capable of absorbing information traffic peaks and the arrival of new services including high-definition video;
• help clients better handle alerts and real-time priority content; and
• ensure uninterrupted delivery of all services.

Medi@Server receives processes, adapts, stores and presents photo, text, graphics and video. It contributed to the highly successful launch of AFPTV in High Definition in September.

The new delivery and content management systems will ensure that transmissions aren’t interrupted by switching to the Internet when satellite communications are disrupted. Other popular AFP platforms for still pictures and video will be integrated into the new system. Medi@Sat allows clients to place an order for photos, videos or graphics via the Internet, and have these products delivered via satellite.

Media@Sat is part of a major priority project by AFP to transform the agency into a truly multi-media news operation offering clients rich media services by integrating, harmonizing and synchronizing editorial production and delivery of all services including text, photo,video, and graphics.
