Thomas Molloy, M.D. Named Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Adventist Medical Center’s Northwest Regional Heart Center

Will perform Open Heart Surgery Beginning in January

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Adventist Medical Center (AMC), a nonprofit, 302-bed acute care nonprofit hospital in southeast Portland, Ore., has named Thomas Molloy, M.D. the director of cardiothoracic surgery for its Northwest Regional Heart Center (NRHC) where he will be performing open-heart surgeries beginning in 2011. AMC is one of only two nationally accredited Chest Pain Centers in Oregon.

Dr. Molloy has more than 20 years of cardiac surgical experience and is one of the leading cardiac robotic surgeons in the Pacific Northwest. He has performed more than 3,400 open-heart procedures including more than 1,200 valve procedures. He regularly performs minimally-invasive robotic-assisted procedures that help patients achieve better outcomes. Dr. Molloy is an authority on robotic-assisted procedures, often giving lectures on new advances in minimally-invasive robotic heart surgery.

Dr. Molloy practiced cardiothoracic surgery in Portland, Ore., with Northwest Surgical Associates and served as the cardiothoracic surgery division chief for the Legacy Portland Hospitals from 1999 to 2007. In 2007 he moved his practice to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash., where he served as the chief of cardiothoracic surgery for the Franciscan Health System.

Dr. Molloy graduated from Stanford University and received his medical degree at Dartmouth Medical School. His general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery residencies were served at the University of Arizona. He is board certified in cardiothoracic surgery.

An 181,000-square-foot expansion of Adventist’s NRHC was completed in April 2009. The expansion includes a 13 bed Cardiovascular Unit, specifically designed to care for cardiac surgery patients from admission through discharge.
