DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/3a816f/greece_telecommuni) has announced the addition of the "Greece Telecommunications Report Q1 2011" report to their offering.
Greece Telecommunications Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, telecommunication associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on Greece's telecommunications industry.
In this quarter's update of the Greece telecommunications market, BMI included the latest data on the telecommunications market. The provision of mobile subscriber figures for the three months ended June 2010 has resulted in a revision of their mobile forecast. Meanwhile, they have also extended their forecasts for the sectors of fixed-line, mobile, internet and broadband to 2015.
The most significant changes to take shape in Greece's telecoms industry occurred in the mobile sector this quarter. There were further reductions in the number of subscribers during Q210 following losses suffered during Q110. This resulted in a combined loss of 2.567mn in H110, bringing the total number of subscribers to 18.193mn. These losses related to the government's policy introduced in November 2007, for all operators to register the personal details of their prepaid subscribers.
BMI believes further reductions in operators prepaid subscriber bases are expected for the remainder of 2010, considering about 72% of the total mobile market is made up of prepaid subscriptions. At the same time, Greece's economic crisis has contributed to lower spending by customers, who cut down on mobile expenditure. Meanwhile cuts in mobile termination rates introduced by the EU in July 2009 has placed a stranglehold on operators revenues, negatively impacting ARPUs. Despite the rather dim view of the market, BMI believes growth will resume by 2011, when they expect to see the end of prepaid registration. Operators are also focusing heavily on improving mobile broadband services, partly to attract subscribers to postpaid and also to boost ARPUs. In addition, there are a few MVNOs, which have not yet launched commercial services and this could help to boost growth in latter years, when BMI forecast penetration rates will reach more than 200% by 2015.
