LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--desi mobi, a unique mobile phone network (mobile virtual network) tailored for the British Asian market, is set to launch in November 2010. It will offer the best of the British and Asian worlds through a unique mix of price plans, content and other value added services. The desi mobi service (desi meaning ‘from the homeland’) will be available in over 400 mobile phone stores nationwide from launch and direct from www.desimobi.co.uk.
desi mobi is the first SIM-only, post-pay service to offer consumers flat rate UK and international calls as part of a monthly price plan, giving customers the best of both worlds. Simplicity of use is key and the company will offer four price plans from launch. As standard all plans will include calls to landline and mobile numbers in the UK, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka and calls to landline and mobiles in other selected countries will be included depending on the tariff. There are two contract terms available: 2 or 12 months, with the latter offering an extra 10% of minutes and texts.
Customers will be able to access desi mobi’s free-to-browse British and Asian content via the desi mobi “starlight” portal. Starlight will offer news, articles and gossip from the UK, Bollywood and Hollywood as part of a unique partnership with Desi Hits, the leading online provider of South Asian content. Full track music downloads from all the major music labels will be easily accessible as well as games, realtones, wallpapers and quick links to favourite sites like Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Cricinfo and many more.
To celebrate the launch of this exciting new service, customers will be able to download 10 free videos a month of celebrity interviews and events from Desi Hits for a period of 3 months from launch.
desi mobi is the UK’s first mobile post paid service to target a specific ethnic niche and is the brainchild of entrepreneur Sacha Visram, who has a background in telecoms. He has spent the last few years developing the offering.
